PCP in Carrollton, Coppell or southwest Plano (preferred)

I need a new PCP and was wondering if any of you have any suggestions.  I prerfer one located in one of these areas as its centrally located for both home and work, but if you have a great one thats not too far off let me know.

I dont remember if I told you girls or not, but last time I went into mine for being sick, she asked me if I was still on all my meds.  When I advised I wasnt on my BCP anymore she didnt bother to ask why or what I was going doing instead, but went on to give me a 5 minute lecture about needing to be on BC.  She ended her lecture, examined me for 3 minutes, wrote a script for some cold meds then walked out of the room.

I am going to a new OB next week to talk about my options for BC without hormones, but I dont even want to see her anymore as my PCP.

Any recommendations?

  • I need a new one too, but I still can't believe that she thought it was her business whether or not you were taking your BCP.  She wasn't your OB/GYN and it's your choice.

My regular asked me to stop taking it because it was causing migraines and drove up my blood pressure.

  • Mine may be too far but I love her!  She's near 15th and coit. Her name is Heather Akins and their website is: www.ntxfm.com

  • I see Dr. Calley at Willow Bend Family Clinic.  It's at Parker & the Tollway... idk if that counts as SW Plano or not.  But, I really like him... he's always pretty short in his exams, but he does explain things to you if you ask (like, why we have tonsils).
  • My PCP is off of Trinity Mills and the Tollway.  Is that an okay area?  Her name is Julie Reihsen and I absolutely love her.  She's very thorough and I always feel like she has my best interest in mind.  I had a scare last year and she recommended I see a professional in that health area.  When the tests came back negative, she strongly recommended I get a second opinion, because, well, you never know.  She's thorough and I like that.
  • BL, my PCP is off of Denton Tap, I think it's called Coppell Family Medical Center. She is a nurse practitioner named Barbara Taylor. I really love her, she explains everything to me, and never rushes me.

  • Thanks ladies for all the suggestions, I will check some of these out next week!
  • BL - I go to Precision Family medicine off of 121 & Hebron.  (an exit east of 121 & I35)  I absolutely love that practice.  There are 3 doctors Dr. Murphy (my primary & f), Dr. Bailey (m) & Dr. Carter (m).  I've seen all three at some point or another due to illness and wanting to get in quickly.

I've always been able to call when sick and get in that day.  Usually within a few hours.  When calling for a yearly exam, it is usually scheduled about 1-2 weeks out (even the first time I called as a new patient!).  None of this 3 months out crap that a lot of doctors do.

They are a family practice and will see anyone in your family.  I went through about 3-4 doctors after moving to Dallas before finding them.  DH who hates the doctor went there on my recommendation and loved them too!
