Poll: Hair Care Products

I always like to see what other people are using...

What products can you not live without?

Anything you use for specific purposes?

What's out there that you want to try?

And what have you tried that you never want to use again?

Re: Poll: Hair Care Products

  • What products can you not live without?

Rusk's Calm conditioner from their Sensories line.  It is amazing! Also, my Rusk straightener.

Anything you use for specific purposes?

Rusk Str8 heat protectant spray when I curl or straighten my hair, Redken Real Control Intense Renewal Mask every 2 weeks for deep conditioning, Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Mousse when I want Texas huge hair.

What's out there that you want to try?

    Meh, nothing really.

And what have you tried that you never want to use again?

Suave shampoo.  They all made my hair feel like straw!  Also, clarifying shampoos make my hair frizzy.

  • What products can you not live without?  With my hair, I have to use something to maintain the frizz 365 days a year, so my go-to is Bed Head's After Party

Anything you use for specific purposes?  Thanks to the lovely Steese, I now use John Frieda's Frizz-Ease Smoothing Creme any time I straighten my hair

And thanks to Sephora's clearance sale, I picked up HerCut Curly Ponytail balm -- today is the first day using it and I love it!

What's out there that you want to try?  What I really want to try right now is the Organix Ever-Straight Brazilian Kertain Treatment and its related products.  I've heard good things so I am hopeful.

And what have you tried that you never want to use again?  There are so many... I swear I'm trying something new every other month because I just can't figure out my hair after almost-30 years.  Sigh... I think the one that really disappointed was TRESemm?s Climate Control products.  But then again, I guess you get what you pay for.

  • What products can you not live without? Garnier Fructis curl sculpting cream-gel.  It's the least expensive hair care product I've ever bought, and it's my absolute favorite for styling.  Hold curl without being all crunchy.

I alternate my regular shampoo and conditioner (like every 6 months) between Biolage's Hydrating line and Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Lemon Sage.

Anything you use for specific purposes? In the wintertime, I have to use Biolage's medicated dry scalp shampoo.  I've always had dry hair/scalp, and the CO winters make it almost unbearable.  This shampoo makes such a big difference.

What's out there that you want to try? nothing really.  I've considered trying a brazillian blowout, but I'm deathly afraid that after the 6 months that my hair would never curl like it used to.  I would die if I lost my good curls.

And what have you tried that you never want to use again? way too many to list.  My curly hair is VERY picky about products.

  • Since I've been growing my hair out, I've tired lots of different things. But within the last week I've settled on my favorites:

Can't live without/use for specific purposes - combining these two. I couldn't choose between 3 things:

    1. Alterna Hemp Thickening Compound - I have really fine hair, and this stuff is amazing at making my hair feel thicker without weighing it down at all. It also makes my hair super soft and smells aaaah-mazing. (It was a TiffanyD rec.) It also has UV protection and works as a heat protectant.

    2. 100% Argan Oil - On days when I'm not washing my hair, I put this on my ends and pull it back into a messy bun. The next day when I wash it out my hair is super soft. I tried the Morrocan Oil brand, but that makes my skin breakout where my hair touches it. This does not. Usually my ends are pretty dry, so this has been awesome.

    3. GNC Be Beautiful vitamins - It took about 3 months to really notice a difference, but my hair went from growing less than 1/2 inch per month to growing about 3/4 inch each month. My hairdresser also commented about how much healthier my hair seems since I've started taking these daily.

    Want to try:

Nothing really. I've tried a lot of different products over the last year. I'm pretty happy with where I am now.

    Never use again:

Dry shampoo. I just don't get the hype. I've tried using it all the different ways people suggest, and it does absolutely nothing for me. Not a fan.
