Um, nothing. We don't make a big deal about birthdays in our house, but DH is especially bad about it. I think he made me dinner, but I don't remember. I didn't get any gifts.
One year we were moving on my birthday, so I didn't expect we'd be doing anything. But by the end of the day, he hadn't even said "happy birthday" and I started crying. He didn't understand why I was upset.
Oh my gosh! I would have been really upset too!!! Hopefully he did something really nice to make up for it!

My parents & aunt came down & took me out to dinner since Dave was gone. I also had BSF that morning & was blessed to serve in the children's dept. helping some 2/3 yr olds.
It was 2 days after my wonderful woman's retreat up at Portage Lake for the weekend, so I was still relaxed from that!
I would totally cry too!
My birthday for the last two years has been on the weekend and we've thrown big parties. I'm ready for a low key birthday! (Next year it's on a Tuesday, I haven't had a Tuesday birthday since I turned 21!)

My last birthday pretty much sucked. lol
Back in April, they had just discovered the "mass" on my ovary and still weren't sure what it was. I was waiting to hear some results back from my Dr. as to whether or not they were going to do surgery or not. So needless to say I was a bit mentally preoccupied with that and wondering if I was going to have a birthday the following year.
It was also pouring rain and it was chilly, so the weather was just gross out and it would have been a great day just to stay inside, but nooooo. DH's brother/wife were in town that day and DH promised them we'd go to lunch with them...on MY birthday. They didn't even wish me a happy birthday and lunch kinda' sucked.
We don't really do a ton for birthdays period, but I was hoping that under the circumstances DH would have made things a little more special for me. It would have been a nice distraction. I got no gifts.
Geez... I sound like a total Debbie Downer.
On a positive note, I was about 14 weeks pregnant and super grateful about that.
The day before my birthday, I had to take DH into urgent care, and he was unofficially diagnosed with chicken pox (officially diagnosed a few days later). So, he was kind of on quarantine for a couple days and was feeling pretty crappy. We ended up going out to dinner about a week later. I was about 3 months pregnant at the time, so it wasn't going to be a crazy time anyway.
It was the busiest day of work of the year for me. And, the brakes in my car went out so I was late. Then, I stood for 8 hours in bad shoes giving tours in 90 degree heat.
We went out for dinner/cupcakes after which was nice, but I got kind of sick from being outside/standing all day plus sangria. And, DH's best friend was in town which was fun, but he paid more attention to him than to me, and I got really upset.
Wow, this is sad.

Losing it...Without Losing it
I got sick! I took the day off to get a mani/pedi with my mom, but woke up not feeling well. Halfway though my appointment, I was feeling feverish. I actually left the spa before my mom was done because I was feeling so horrible. I spent the entire week in bed. It took three trips to urgent care before I was finally diagnosed with tonsilitis. At first they thought I had the flu, and the doctor basically gave me a guilt trip for not getting a flu shot. After my tests came back negative for the flu, I wanted to laugh at her and request my $90 back for the stupid Tamiflu they made me buy.
Basically, my 30th birthday sucked big time. DH was supposed to take me out to dinner, but since I was sick, we never went. Don't get me started on that one...

My actual birthday was on a Monday and I had to work in the evening.
but... we celebrated the day before, went out to dinner with my parents, DH and J&J to a yummy Mexican restaurant in town. DD spent most of her time staring at another table - her back completely turned to us (how rude! guess we were boring) and DS enjoyed dipping goldfish crackers in salsa (it was pretty good, I tried some...) we went back to our house and had cake and ice cream. I got a Vera Bradley purse and some cute little elf decorations that I'd had my eye on while shopping with my mom a few weeks prior. It was a good day.
Last birthday I turned 25 and DH had a mini surprise party with our closest family set up for me at Paesano?s in Ann Arbor, a week before my birthday. Then my sissy came over to stay the high, we had a good time.
On my actually birthday since DH had to work that weekend, I went to the Ann Arbor Comedy Club with my sissy and a couple friends.
That sounds awesome! Did you go during Mardi Gras? I would love to go to NOLA not during MG just because HUGH crowds make me feel super overwhelmed. If it wasn?t during MG what did you do there?
I totally prefer low-key events if I'm the center of attention, but having a Wednesday birthday sucked. I was just completely exhausted/drained from working outside all day and we went out to dinner because it was my birthday. But I would've gladly went straight to bed at 7pm, lol
Next year it's on a Tuesday or this year?
I remember that weekend last year! I was in Austin, TX visiting my brother and DH had to do a whole bunch of stuff outside... I felt really sorry for him! (FWIW it was "cold" in Austin too)
