Wine Bar for Wedding Reception...what do you think?
I can't post a link because I'm blocked from the site at work. There is a wine bar in my city with an awesome restaurant that caters that is located across the street. It can accomodate up to 80 people. I'm sure we'd have to serve their wine, which might pose an issue in regard to cost. It's more of an upscale place in a trendier area.
Also, I've never been there, but have heard positive things about it (as a wine bar, not a reception site).
Do you think that sounds like a good idea? Since we are going small, I thought it might be fun to do something a little different than a hall at a hotel or country club. They are nice too, but I like the thought of something with more character. I want to go for elegant and classy but don't want to come off as a snob.

I think that sounds like an awesome idea. They might let you bring in your own wine, but they'd most likely charge you a significant "corking fee"... so you're probably better off serving their wine.

I was actually thinking it might be fun to go there tonight for a glass or two of wine to check it out! I wonder if we could bring in beer. I think they might also sell beer, so probably not.
The place is in our older downtown area where most of the buidings have a wall or two of exposed brick inside. I love that look! I'm not sure if this place has it or not, but most of the places in that area have a very inviting, warm feel to them. Parking sucks though.
LOL...classy people still like to dance, right? I'm far from classy, but I don't want a bunch of people getting super drunk, taking off their shirts and doing the electric slide! I live in Wisconsin and it's hard not to play a polka at a wedding. People are really disappointed when there isn't at least one polka. Although, half of the guests will be from Illinois, so maybe we can forgo the polkas.
Honestly...I hadn't thought about the music and dancing part of the whole thing in regard to what we would be able to do at this place.
I don't know if I even know what I really want! FI is pretty much just going along with whatever I say. Smile and nod...smile and nod.

We have a lot of Germans here and Germans like polkas. Both of our families are German so it's a given, I guess.

I'd agree with Muddled - check out the reservation/wine prices before you even go to check it out, in case it's way beyond your means and you end up pining over it.
Oh, I know. I'd rather spend the money on good food and a memorable place than on a dress or flowers. I may have a relative do the photography. She has a really nice camera and it's her hobby. I'm waiting to see if she wants to do our engagement pictures and then I'll be able to get a feel of what her skill level is before I ask her to do the wedding.

For 49-71 people:
$100 per/hr ($150 p/hr for 72+)
Use of room, kitchen, stemware, tables, chairs, garbage removal and cleaning
They allow time earlier in the day for set-up without being charged
Table linens are $3 per table and $.50 per linen napkin
They have round, rectangle or bistro tables
All wine, beer, soda and water has to be purchased through them. Wine/beer hosts are $15 p/hr per host.
You can bring in your own food and musicians or DJs.
Sounds reasonable except for maybe the cost of the alcohol (which I have no idea on that cost except that I'm sure it's not cheap. It did state that there is a significant quantity discount)
You can always ask Mort. Our venue (Italian restaurant) has access to unlimited types of wine so aside from the basic wine that's included in the cost per person, we could add on whatever we want for an additional cost per person or pay a $10 corking fee per bottle of wine brought into the restaurant. Since they don't have unlimited beer, we are allowed to bring in some if we want.
