Puerto Vallarta?

We just booked our first all inclusive stay in Puerto Vallarta.  Are there any must see/do's there?  I have heard it's fun to walk the malecon.  Did you feel safe there?

Thanks!

Re: Puerto Vallarta?

  • DH and I visited the malecon and thought it was great! There was a few artist there building sand sculptures right on the boardwalk. We grabbed a few beers and lunch out that way.

I don't have any other must see's - we spent most of our time laying by the pool or on the beach.

  • H and I did the Las Caletas day trip thru Vallarta Adventures and really liked it.  You can only get to the island by boat, so you take a big boat there, it drops you off and you spend the day snorkeling, swimming and hanging out on the beach.  Your drinks and buffet lunch are included, then they boat you back.  We met a few fun couples and had a blast.

When we went it was whale season so we did some whale watching from the boat on the way to the island (which was awesome to see).

  • I loved the malecon!  I wish we hadn't stayed at an AI and stayed in town since we ended up taking a cab into the city every day.  I definitely felt safe.

My top two "to dos" in PV were a canopy zipline tour (we went through Los Veranos), and a day trip to Yelapa.

The zipline was really fun and a great way to see the jungle.  I have a fear of heights and even I was able to enjoy it.  There's something very peaceful and freeing about gliding through the treetops.

Yelapa was amazing.  It's a tiny fishing village only accessible by boat.  We were originally planning a day trip to Sayulita so DH could surf, but he hurt his back a week before the trip.  So this was a last minute thing.  It's a gorgeous beach, one of the top 3 I've ever visited.  We hiked to a waterfall and swam in it's pool.  I wish we'd spent the night!

We also snorkeled while we were there and that was a lot of fun because our guide was great.

  • The malecon is great, and we never felt unsafe anywhere in PV.

Ditto blu-eyedwife on Yelapa, I highly rec going there, loved that waterfall with the pool!  You also have the option to horseback ride up to the waterfall rather than hike.  Also had lots of fun snorkeling on this tour.

We also toured Casa Kimberley, the home that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton.  Pretty cool.  I don't know if it's open for tours anymore though, I heard they may be renovating it.

    Have fun!
