Suggestions for things to do with kids INDOORS!

I have a friend from the bump who lives in NJ, and we were thinking about having a play date with our girls in Manhattan, since it's sort of easy for both of us to get to.

Since I'm a queens girl I can't think of anything to do with kids in the city, except for the zoo but it's too cold for that.

I need suggestions please!  We both have 16 month old little girls.  What should we do with them?

Re: Suggestions for things to do with kids INDOORS!

  • First, let me say that I don't know much about babies, so forgive me if my ideas are completely inappropriate :)

I would go to FAO Schwarz, Build-a-Bear, American Girl Place or the new Lego megastore in Rockefeller Center. Legos don't sound too suitable for 16 month old girls, but maybe they have a playground of some sort?

The wheel inside Toys'RUs in Time Sq is also fun!

  • **You could go to the childrens museum on the upper west side.

**I've seen productions in the playground from a marionette show that has its home in central park where they put on more elaborate and dirt cheap shows.

Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre : Kids : City Parks Foundation

**There is the Scandanavian House that has always sounded interesting to me. They have open ours for non-members on Saturdays. I bookmarked a page from Mommy Poppins about it and this is what it says:

     Scandinavia House

58 Park Avenue at 38th Street, Manhattan
Open to the public Saturday, 12-5 pm. $8 per child (FREE to ASF members) includes admission to both the Heimbold Family Children's Center and A Child's Adventure in the Swedish Countryside.

Scandinavia House is one of NYC's best kept secrets. They have a great play space/exhibit called A Child?s Adventure in the Swedish Countryside featuring a playhouse, a Stockholm cityscape, a hand-crafted tent, shelves of Swedish children?s books and more, all set in a room of hand-painted murals based on Swedish children?s stories. For the same price of admission, you can visit the Heimbold Family Children's Center where kids can learn about the history and culture of Scandinavia with books and toys. On Saturdays they frequently have story times and workshops. I've heard Scandinavia House is rarely crowded, and only costs $5 to get in on Saturdays, but join for a minimal $125 and you can get in free all year, plus enjoy special times when only members are allowed for further crowd protection.
