summer plans
we have rented a house for the summer for about 10 years down the shore. with daycare costs, it is coming to an end 
i want to plan a few weekends away with the kids (as inexpensive as possible). I am looking for any recs at all. i also have never been to the mountains and am open to that as well. I was pricing some pocono resorts and they were even more expensive than the shore any suggestions appreciated

Piggy-backing on the Hershey idea, I stayed in Harrisburg for a conference at a very affordable, clean Holiday Inn with a pool and learned I was only 15 minutes from Hershey Park.
Knoebels is a popular destination too - though not sure on pricing (I think they might have a campground of sorts).
Great Wolf Lodge? It seems pricey, but your room rate includes admission to the water park for the entire day you arrive and the entire day you leave (until 9pm or something). We've gone with my nieces and nephews and crammed into a couple rooms (as many wristbands as we could get for each room rate) and it was fun.
Check out renting a trailer or cabin at a summer trailer park down the shore. They are not like regular trailer parks, but have swimming pools, lakes, fishing, activities, etc.
For the last 20+ years, my husband's family has owned several trailers at Big Timberlake in Cape May. It's such a nice change of pace from Wildwood, and it's only a very short car ride from the shore. They are set up like little private communities, and kids are running around everywhere.
Not sure what you were paying for a shore house, but I'm assuming a cabin or trailer world be considerably cheaper.
I used to go to BTL ALL the time as a kid!!! We loved it there!
They do have camping, it's super cheap. There are also chain hotels nearby. We stayed there last year and spent less than $100 for our room.
Cost of Knoebels varies because you mostly pay per ride. I would say about $25 per adult and much less for the kiddos.
One of the local market (Wegmans I believe) usually sells the "ride all day" bracelets for half price. I want to say $16 per kid.
