Where to go Furniture Shopping?

DH and I are in the market for new couch(es), Coffee table, and entertainment center (really just a cabinet to put our TV on with a few drawers/cabinets for DVD and such).

We are spending time tomorrow shopping around.  Where would you go?  We're willing to travel through most of the metro area.

ETA: Budget is probably $2500-$3000 for everything, but we'd be willing to go higher if we found something we really loved!

Re: Where to go Furniture Shopping?

  • Depends on your budget. We only shop at Room and Board (random IKEA purchase, including the baby's furniture, being exceptions), but it's a "pick one piece, save for it, rinse, repeat" sort of store for us.
  • My go to for reasonably priced furniture is IKEA.  For pieces that I want to last a long time, I go to Room & Board in Cherry Creek. Their prices are right around Crate & Barrel's, but I find their quality to be way, way higer.
  • IKEA

but if money was no issue it would be Crate & Barrel or Pottery Barn.

  • costco (the one on hampton and Santa Fe) has furniture right now (including some of the pieces you mentioned.)  The prices are good but you have to pick it up.
  • I like Scandinavian Designs, Crate & Barrell and IKEA.

  • We love our couch from Scandinavian Designs.  They have many affordable pieces.

Also, Pottery Barn is having a sale on their display furniture so you might check that out too.

ETA: I would also check Craig's List for everything but the couch.  We found our tv stand on Craig's List and love it.  It didn't have a scratch on it.  It's actually a lot like what you described too.

  • Love love love love LOVE West Elm.  I just bought my new sofa from them.  They have a store in Cherry Creek. My entertainment center is coming from IKEA.

  • In addition to the places mentioned, I would add Macy's IF they are having a good sale. We bought our family room furniture (sectional, media table, ottoman) there around this time last year when they were having one of their big furniture sales.
  • I'd look at American Furniture and Furniture Row for the sofas. Right now I'm learning towards an entertainment center at IKEA.

  • I'd go to sofa mart and IKEA for sure.  I'd check out american furniture warehouse, too.  I think Room and Board, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, and west elm are nice, but tend to be a little more than I want to spend.

  • I like Arhaus and Pottery Barn for mid/high range pieces. Otherwise I would check out furniture row and Woodley's.

  • Our furniture is from R&B, z Gallerie, C&B, IKEA, WE, Macy's, Kaseys (closed now), Furn Row (bedroom) & Craigslist. Our living room is all R&B & I've been pleased with it but it was fairly pricey. I especially love my entertainment center & coffee table...they take a ton of abuse & still look brand new.
  • Keep in mind you get what you pay for. Our sofa and loveseat are from Sofa Mart. They have not really withstood the test of time. Good if you only want them for the short term if you plan on having kids and don't want to ruin good furniture, but I can't say it's a good idea for a longterm investment.

Agreed.  However, at this point anything is better than the ugly green couch that was DH's grandma...  We don't have kids, and we aren't super hard on anything, so for now, we really just want an upgrade from hand-me-downs Stick out tongue
