Specifically human resources or social/human services? I have been looking for a job since the end of 2010. I'm a licensed school counselor with a background in case management and social work. I have a BA in Sociology and a MS in Counseling. I live in Aurora but, since there are no jobs down here, I decided to expand my job search to include Commerce City (therefore Adams County). Anyway, I just submitted my application(s) for a couple of case worker jobs. I know that counties typically get hundreds of applicants and I really, really, really want this job! It's in child protection, there were 3 positions actually: adoption, ongoing, and ongoing sex abuse, and I'd be more than fulfilled in any of them.
So, I'm hoping I can find someone that works for the county who might be able to help my application be seen under the pile of other candidates... anybody? pretty please? I'll return the favor in some way, I promise!!!
Re: Anyone work for Adams County?
I don't work for Adams County but I used to work for the community mental health center up in Adams County. They work very closely together and perhaps you could get your foot in the door through the mental health center (they have an entire school based therapist program) and then you could transition over to DHS once you've established some working relationships with the caseworkers over there
Good luck! (If you end up applying to the mental health center, let me know! I could talk to HR for ya since I still do some contract work up there)

Thank you! Is that Community Reach or is there another one? I've already applied for everything I'm qualified for there and I haven't heard back from anyone : ( Let me know if there's a different MH center or if you can help me get into Community Reach! Thanks again!!
Yep, that is Community Reach Center. I know most of the managers over there still (I left in September for the MHC in Aurora). PM me if you want and we can chat about which positions you've applied for & I can email some of the managers over there that I know
You mentioned that you are licensed...do you have an LPC, LMFT or an LCSW?
Oh my gosh! Men typically have a much easier time getting a human services position than women do so I can't believe he's had such terrible luck!!! That's awful!! Best of luck to him!
Sending you a PM!! : )
Thanks - he's been looking since March of 2010. Hopefully you both get it since there's 3 spots open!

Whoa.
I totally thought you guys were just giving me the "there there, underqualified, talentless loser" kind of back-pack while secretly thinking "you can't find a job because you have no good skills, Keri" treatment the other day. But 13 years experience, and 70 jobs applied for!?
Yikes - it really is scary out there.

Yeah! Fingers crossed for us both!! I was laid off 10 days after DD was born (Thanksgiving of 2009) and have been looking (diligently) ever since... The job market is so bad right now, it's unbelievable!!
Yes, it's horrifying. I even tried to go back to my old job (that I left to go work for a company that laid me off while on maternity leave... yeah... mistake...) because they said they'd love to have me back when I left but they wouldn't take me back because they had MORE THAN ONE former employee apply and were going by SENIORITY over who was there longer before leaving!!! WTF???!!!
K, I don't blow smoke up your azz. It's awful - he's applied for way more then 70, but the 70 are just the social services ones. He's applied for at least as many security, loss prevention and investigative jobs (which he has almost a decade as a sex offender investigator experience) and he has had ONE interview. One.
I've applied for close to 200 total jobs, and have had one phone interview and I have one in person next week that I know I won't get but I'm doing anyway. All jobs which I am qualified or over-qualified for. It's bad. And with both of us being out of work, it's not just bad it's terrifying.
