This is going to a huge PITA huh?
We bought my mom a camera for christmas, but then she won one at a dinner thing so DH took it back this past weekend. Today I looked at our credit card statement and rather than crediting us, they charged the same amount again. I'm not sure that DH still has the receipt. I'm going to call them in a bit, but I have a feeling this is going to be super annoying to sort out. Does not help that DH has drill this weekend and so it's all me. And I definitely wanted it sorted out ASAP. Would it be better to argue with the credit card company instead?

I'd call the store it happened at and see if they can fix it over the phone. Every retail place I have worked at has been able to look that stuff up.
It'll involve a few phone calls and one big manager but it should be taken care of. They usually keep some sort of record on their end, too. Just be REALLY nice about it and that should get you pretty far.
I had a horrendous time buying gift cards for DS's teachers (and the mailman, etc.) this Christmas. Starbucks and McDonald's messed up and didn't even load some of them. It was pretty much my word against theirs. Granted, it was only $5 and not a nice camera but I thought I would be SOL but they helped me out.
