Tipping on a cruise ship
Hi all!!
this will be my first cruise, we will be sailing on DCL at the end of the month. Ive been reading sites--but still a little confused!! So Im hoping you can help!
Who do you tip??
We will be on a 4 night cruise. Do you tip as you go? (example-- when rooms service comes you tip them,right?) Or do you tip one lump some at the end of the sail?? Do you tip per room or per person?! We will have 4 people in our room.
Is there a list of who you HAVE to tip....or do you only tip who you feel 'deserved' it?
Is there a suggestion of how much you should tip?
Any help regarding this would be grand!

You tip everyone in a lump sum at the end. They have recommendations for example $5 per person per day for your waiter ( made up number I don't remember the exact numbers).
That being said for exceptional service you could certainly give the person an additional something along the way.

Room service - cash on delivery you don't always see the same one twice.
Bar service- check the slip you are signing, it will normally have 15% already on the slip. You can add additional if you feel like it. If you find a bartender you like at a bar vs waiter service tipping that one in cash can result in "better" drinks. Tipping the waiter a little extra can result in faster service.
Wait staff/house keeping are tipped per person, not per room at the end of the cruise. Disney has it broken down per person per cruise vs other lines that do per person per night. http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/faqs/onboard-services/gratuities/. Not sure if Disney adds it to your account or if they hand out the envelopes.

Not sure about Disney but here's what we did.
For Carnival there was a per person per day tip that we just did automatically as part of the cruise cost. The last night of the cruise we tipped our dinner service staff (2 people), we like a set time for dinner so we get the same folks every night. For our 5 night cruise, there was 4 couples so we each did $20 per person, so that's about $80 per waiter. For the room person we did $40-$60 for our room.
