Favorite Jamaica resort?

We plan to go back to Jamaica the first week in May and I'd like some suggestions.  We stayed at Riu Montego Bay last year and loved it.  I'd like to go to a different area this time though.  I'm not too picky.... I really just want a nice beach and good food.  Thanks for your help!

I like Couples Negril and Swept Away (but prefer Negril).  The beaches in Negril are far superior to those in Montego Bay.

  • Where did you fly into?  All of the packages that I'm looking at still fly into Montego Bay.  I was curious how long the drive was to Negril.  I've heard the beaches there are much nicer.  We were only in Jamaica for 3 days so we stayed close to the airport.
  • Couples Resorts, hands down. We stayed at Tower Isle right after it re-opened, and it was amazing. We visited San Souci (also fantastic), and have heard great things about the other 2.

You fly into MBJ (Montego Bay) then drive to Negril, which is about 1.5 hours.  If you go to Ocho Rios (also nice) it's closer to 2, I believe.  You can also take a flight through Tim Air or Island Air from MBJ to Negril.  I think that runs between $75-$150 each way, per person. We said next time we go we'll fly from MBJ to Negril and just take the bus back.

  • We're going to Couples Sans Souci May 2 through May 8. From what I've read it seems like it's gonna be really nice with an intimate feel. And right now they are having a day special to book a room at Couples Sans Souci at 49% off for travel for the month of May. So maybe you should check them out.

  • Sandals Whitehouse is amazing, we spent our HM there.  It's a gorgeous resort with a huge main pool and awesome swim-up bar, plus a fantastic beach!  The food is really good, as well as the drinks (especially the Dirty Banana, lol).  We visited Sandals Negril and that was nice as well but so far Whitehouse is our fave.

  • I've only been to Jamaica once and it was this past April to Negril. We stayed at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay. It's actually on Bloody Bay as opposed to Seven mile beach and I think that it is way nicer than any of the other resorts. Bloody Bay is adjacent to 7MB but is a more relaxing and calmer section in my opinion. Like a PP stated, you fly into Montego Bay and then can fly or drive into Negril. I thought the drive was a great way to see the countryside, especially the Blue Mountain range. I can't wait to go back, it was gorgeous!
