I know that everyone is always looking for savings and evaluating costs, especially around this time of year. I thought I'd post some info I found. I wanted recycling pick up every week and who we have now, Papillion Sanitation, would only do it every other week. So I called around and Gretna Sanitation will pick up every week, still give me a big bin, and was cheaper each month (64/qrtr). Also, they only charge for yard waste (9/mo) during the months that they pick it up. During the off months the just let you keep the bin for free. To top it off they compost all the yard waste, which I don't think most places do. I don't know if other places do all of this also, but I thought I would share. If you switch, and know me, we both get a free month if you tell them my name. I'm not sure how far North they go, we are around 180th and Harrison. PS did charge me a $25 cancellation fee, but for me it's worth it to compost YW and not have my recycling be picked up as trash every other week.
On the flip side, when I called to cancel PS, they offered to price match (though I don't think it was forever, just for a time period) and give me a 2nd bin, though when I've asked them before I would have had to pay for it and of course store it. So if you threaten to cancel, it sounds like they will work with you. Like I've heard Cox will. So if you want to save on trash, there are some options. Just FYI.
