Re: switching formula

  • We switched A about 6 times before settling on Similac Alimentum (hypoallergenic formula). She had really bad reflux and everything else made her uncomfortable and cranky. She was constantly spitting up, couldn't sleep, needed to be propped up all the time. Our Pedi just told us to try a new formula every 5-7 days until we found one that she felt better on. Pedi advised us on which formulas to try each time, we didn't just do this on our own.

  • We switched 4 times before we found one that worked for C. When we switched, the pedi recommended doing it gradually, so we were mixing 2 formulas together for a little while. The only trouble we had was that he didn't like the taste of a couple of them, so he would scream. He got used to it :) If it is an allergy, it may take a couple of weeks for his sypmtoms to subside. Good luck!
  • we also switched 4 times before getting on one he didnt scream about. we did ask the dr everytime what to switch to and we were told to stay on the new one for 2 weeks before switching again.

    good luck!

  • we had to switch 1 time.  switch gradually and it does take time to see relief.

Usually the transition is like this:

    75%-25% old to new

    50-50 old to new

    25-75 old to new

    100 NEW

  • We switched from breast milk to milk based to sensitive.  I switched her from the milk based to sensitive because she seemed cranky, but looking back, it was probably her age at the time less than the formula ( she was about 8 weeks).
