What to do in Nassau? Shops?Eat?

We will be in Nassau for the day at the end of the month(DCL Dream). Ive looked at excursions--but we will have our toddler with us--and she cant go on alot of them.

I was wondering what you would suggest doing/seeing?

Any food stops?

Ive been to cruisecritic board and I recieved no response. So Im hoping your ladies can help!!!!

Re: What to do in Nassau? Shops?Eat?

  • Take the water taxi (or regular taxi) ~$4pp over to Atlantis and go through the aquarium ($39 $29 kids, not sure if there is an age at which kids start) or just buy the beach pass ($60??)  there.  Both are cheaper than buying it through the ship.

Maybe try the Disney Line board (not cruise critic)  http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4

Did you post on the line board onCC or did you look through the port of call board for Nassau?  If you look back a few pages in the port of call board you might find some options.

You can walk around town, most of the shops are the same ones you see in every port.  Depending on the toddler not sure if I'd take them to the straw market for any long period of time.  They do have carriage tours.  We did one once while waiting for other things to open. It was okay.  Our more recent stops we've gone diving ate on the other side of the island so not much help there sorry.

  • Like PP said, the shops are pretty much the same as they are in every port. You may enjoy it, but it's not my thing. There is a public beach called Junkanoo Beach in walking distance of the ship. Just keep walking past Senor Frogs and the Hilton and you will come across it. You can rent chairs and there is stands set up to buy drinks and food. You can also buy a day pass to the Hilton to use their facilities. It is $50 per person but comes with a $30 food credit. I'm not sure how much it would be to bring your LO.

  • There is a lot of road/construction going on right now so traveling around the island is kind of a pain.  We loved downtown Nassau and walked around for a bit and shopped, got ice cream, and took photos.  They are in the process of moving the Straw Market indoors (it was almost finished when we were there in October) so it may be a little better (the outdoor one seemed very confined) and made me dizzy.  But it was also 105 degrees....  I second the water taxi to Atlantis.
  • Which ship are you going to be on?  If it is the new one, I'd probably get off for a bit to walk around, but spend most of the day on the ship.  However, with DCL that is a very popular thing to do in Nassau, so, the ship is still pretty full that day.
