Do girls get married at 12 now?

So... I guess I am just feeling old or something.  I was reading a post on FM and someone commented on their 43 year old MIL to be.  I get it.  If you have a son at 20 he will be 23 when you are 43 and you weren't even a teen mom.  It's possible.  There is nothing wrong with it necessarily.  I guess it made me feel ancient that my husband is older than her MIL to be.  Oh well.  At least I enjoy knitting AND rocking chairs,

Re: Do girls get married at 12 now?

  • It really can seem that way. My mom was a teen mom (18 and PG in high school when she had my brother and 20 when she had me).

My mom is 50 and my dad is 52. H is 36, but his sister is 45 and her husband is 50. So that's a little weird sometimes.

    Obviously his parents are older.

  • When you're 18 you're an adult that is of legal age. It doesn't make you a teen mom, maybe in chronological years, but not quite a teen mom.

  • I just commented on that thread. I'm 2 years older than the MIL. Gawd I'm old! None of my friends kids are quite old enough to get married yet - but they are getting there..
  • My parents were both grandparents in their late 30's. Had my brother when they were 18 and 19, he became a dad at 20.

  • My mom had my sister at 19. When my sister got married at 21 (divorced at 24, but I digress), my mom was only 40, so it happens. She was only 43 when I got married, but, you know, bval the beebee and all that. My dad/FIL/MIL (all the same age, even graduated high school together) were all 47.

So sure, it happens. A lot of time those posters probably are getting married in their early twenties, but it happens.

Also, rocking chairs are bitchin'. I want five.

  • My mom was 19 when she got married and had me shortly after.  We got married when I was 19, so she was only 39.  My ILs got married when they were both 18 and popped out two kids right away.  They were in their early 40s when we got married.

I don't think that's the norm. We are in our mid and late 20s and just now are the people we went to school with getting married without an unplanned pregnancy being involved.  Both sets of our parents are divorced and a few people that got married shortly after us are already divorced.

  • My neighbor proudly announced to me that he is a great great great grandfather. DH thinks that he added an extra "great" for effect but I'm not so sure. Just out of curiosity, I looked up when one of my g x 3 grandpas was born -- 1843.

My grandma's mother was a grandmother at 30, but there was obviously some serious teen momming involved. I will be nice and not mention where they're from.

I consider her a teen mom because while she was legally an adult, she was still in high school, doing chores for cash and living under her parents roof.

  • None of my parents/ILs are 50 years old yet. My grandma isn't 70 yet.

Is this supposed to make me feel more ancient?  LOL!  I love you Huber, but now I feel like my MIL who is 70 is 125 and that my DH is 95 which would make me 84.

No, I'm just saying. My grandma was married at 17, but my parents were in their 20s when I was born, and I had DS at 25. Its possible.
