Has anyone been to Avon in the Outer Banks?
We are planning vacation in the outer banks this summer with dd who will be 23 months. I found an amazing rental house in Avon, but we know nothing about Avon. The only thing I really know is its tiny and non commercial, which is fine, but I wondered how for we would have to go for dinner or a grocery store. Any insight or tips?
Re: Has anyone been to Avon in the Outer Banks?
My parents own s vacation house in Avon, so I know the area really well! It's on Hatteras island. Parts of Hatteras island are preserved, so when you're driving to Avon, you'll be like " I'm in the middle of nowhere!!!" lol stretches of open beach with nothing!
But.... When yiu get to Avon, it's great!!! There's a huge food lion grocery store right there- so no prob at all getting food. Theres a movie theater, lots of restaurants ( cafe 12 is my fave!!!) places to rent jet skis, etc... A spa that has yoga classes, etc... A small medical center if you need it. It's probably the most "built up" town on Hatteras island.
Its also about a 15 minute drive to the Hatteras lighthouse, which is kind of a " must see" lol
