I haven't really talked about it much on here but I need y'alls dust and/or prayers.
My DH (Keith) started having some health issues over the summer. He thought he had injured his sciatic nerve. By July, he could barely walk. We do not have health insurance (both small business owners) so he put off going to the doctor.
In August, he was not able to feel his feet or legs so he finally went to a neurologist. Keith was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome. Most people get it from a GI infection or the flu vaccine. Keith had a pretty bad stomach bug in May so we think that is where he got it.
Keith is paralyzed from the waist down. He has left the bedroom 4 times in 5 months (for doctors appointment). We go back again next week.
He will eventually get 85 to 90 percent back according to our neurologist. It could take up to three years though.
Anyway...reason I am asking for dust...he is very depressed and down. He feels like a failure. If y'all don't mind...say some prayers for his healing...mentally and physically. It has been so tough on us financially but also changed our roles in our marriage. I am learning to be more patient but I still need a lot of work there! I never thought I would have to be my husband's primary caregiver when he is only 38 (he is younger than me).
If you took the time to read this...thank you. I think I needed to get it out more than anything. I don't let him see me cry or get down so I feel like I am about to burst!
Re: Need nestie "dust" or thoughts and prayers! :)
Oh! I am so so sorry we didn't know about this before. I will definitely be thinking good thoughts for him and for you. Has his doctor given any advice on how to deal with the depression that has resulted from his illness? Has he had a chance to talk to anyone?
Praying for you guys. ((hugs))

Oh wow. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Do you have help at home so you can take a break every now and then? Make sure you take good care of yourself.
I'm curious about the treatment as well. I've taken care of several patients with GBS and watched them recover. As I'm sure you know, it's a slow process and it can be very frustrating. If he's not on an antidepressant already I think it's definitely something you should talk to the doctor about.Sending thoughts, prayers, dust, and hugs to you. Please keep us updated and feel free to vent if you need to.
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted and used against you. My Blog
Thanks everyone for all the kind messages. It felt so good to get it all out and knowing I have y'alls support is amazing! Love and hugs to each of y'all!
As far as treatment...he is currently in rehab mode. He is still on pain meds (Gabepentin and Vicodin) and his neurologist is slowly taking him off the steroids. Keith's mom is a physical therapist and has been to see us 4 times (I wish more....but that is 4 more times than she saw us the last few years). She has given him his exercises and stretches to do every day.
I haven't left the house for more than a few hours at a time since June BUT I am doing a girl's weekend in a few weeks. I am so excited. I didn't want to go far as I am not super comfortable leaving him so I am staying at the Hotel Contessa on the Riverwalk for 2 nights. His dad is going to come stay with him that weekend. It is to celebrate my big 40th Birthday and I can't wait. Best birthday gift EVER from my mom!
Again, thank you so much for all the sweet notes! LOVE Y"ALL!!

Thanks Y'all!
We have a doctor's appt. this week and I am going to bring up the depression thing (even though DH thinks he isn't depressed....) Ugh. MEN!
Just a comment on this, it's definitely not a man-thing. After I injured my back (which was no where near this serious), I went into a pretty deep depression. Even with my history of depression, I was in denial about it. I finally admitted it after about 6 months & have fought it off & on for the past two years as I continue to try to heal.
Saying many prayers for y'all.
