houses near cell towers

I'll be doing some research as well to see if there are health risks, but would you consider buying a house a few doors down from a cell phone tower?

Re: houses near cell towers

  • I did not look at a model house because there were power line towers in the view of the neighborhood. I just don't like looking at a tower from my front yard.
  • I'm not sure about cell phone towers but I know when I researched power lines there wasn't any evidence of any health issues (hense they keep building near power lines).  The one issue with power lines is they can make a humming noise if your not far enough away from them.  Just not sure about cell towers.

  • We are in the process of looking for a home.  One of the towns we are looking at has high tension wires running through a section of town.  I did some research and it seems like there is no conclusive evidence that they cause health problems.  However, our concern in resale value.  Many of the homes in this area sit on the market for awhile and are prices way lower than others in town.  My husband and I discussed it and we are avoiding anything by the wires due to aesthetics, potential health concerns and more importantly, resale value.

  • research is probably conflicting or inconclusive at this point regarding health risks. however, our agent steered us away from a house we loved very close to major power transmission lines and a cell tower because it's harder to resell. even if they don't bother you, they will probably bother lots of future buyers when it comes time for you to sell. you will probably be able to sell it, but it may take longer to find a buyer that is ok with it and maybe for less than comparables that don't have the cell tower so close by.
  • A family member has a Verizon Tower on their property. it doesn't block view of the home, and they receive around $800/month from verizon as "rent" for their land use.

  • Answering from an aesthetic perspective only, I'd consider it if I liked the house enough otherwise.  No property is ever going to be perfect and I could certainly look past a cell tower that is a few doors down.  I would want to research the health risks though because I have no idea about those.

  • we bought a home about 300 ft from a major power supply line. I had the electric company come run a test for emissions before we bought it and the results were negligable. We also never see them except in the winter due when the foliage is gone.

  • I'm paranoid about stuff like this so take this with a grain of salt... but absolutely not!   They have been telling us cell phones are safe for years and now all of a sudden they are telling us not to keep our cell phones on our pockets and to use headsets to keep them away from our brains!?!?!

I'm have talked to several medical professional who specialize in EMR testing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_radiation)   and frankly some EMR waves are not great for you. Why take the risk, there are other houses.
