Moms of 3,4,5 year olds....school related
DD will be 4 in May. We plan on starting her in preschool in the fall. She's a stay at home kid right now. So here I go...
Do I put her in preschool 2, 3 , or 5 days a week? How did u decide. The school we r sending her to offers those three options.
What makes a good preschool, and what questions should I be asking?
How do I determine when to enroll her in kindergarten?
What do I need to do to make sure she's as prepared as she can be for preschool and kindergarten?
Is there some sort of Manuel or helpful place for me to get info to help me answer all these questions. I feel so unprepared to send my kiddo to school. FYI she will be attending mps.
Thanks a ton from this clueless mom.

Re: Moms of 3,4,5 year olds....school related
Here is my input.
I would send her either 2 or 3 days a week. That said, if she is only going to do 1 year of ps before you send her to school, I would do 3 days. Tommy just turned 4 and is going to 2 days but has another year of ps before kinder where he will go 3day. I personally would not just throw her in going 5 as it can be a big adjustment if she is used to being home with you.
I would tour some preschools. Talk to the teachers about how they teach their classes, centers, etc.
I believe the date on when you can send them to kinder has changed and how has an end of July cut-off. So depending on when her birthday is, that might effect when you send her to kinder.
I have noticed with M in kindergarten this year, that there is a large range of what kids know before they go to kinder. That said, I made sure Maren could write, spell and identenify her first and last name, the numbers up to 50 and the letters. I know from working in her class room, that not all the kids in her class could these, but there are also kids in her class who were reading on their own when we got there.
I think someone posted a list of what kids should know for kinder a while back- either Nancy or Amanda maybe?
Hope this helps.
