DIY ideas for Dr Seuss nursery?

I am looking for some DIY ideas to do in a Dr Seuss nursery. So far, I've made a lamp, done an alphabet, and a wall hanging. I also am going to do this:

I'm also going to make a pillow for the rocking chair. But I'm at a loss as to what else I could do as DIY. I don't own a sewing machine, but I don't mind hand sewing. I also have no earthly idea how to crochet or knit (though most of my close family does and I know we have lots of blankets/hats, etc on the way)

Thanks!

Re: DIY ideas for Dr Seuss nursery?

  • what about framed book covers or sayings from the books? I was going to do a Dr. Seuss nursery but DH would rather not have a set theme... but there will be touches!

  • I've thought about doing that! I'd love to paint, but we live in an apartment, and we can't. (We're also probably going to be moving Dec 2012, so whatever I do I want it to be easily transferable to the next place we go.)

My suggestion is out, then. My cousin did an awesome mural for her baby's Dr. Seuss nursery. She photocopied some illustrations onto a transparency, then used a projector to project it onto the wall, traced the lines, then painted it in. It turned out so well. Maybe you could do something similar on a canvas instead of directly onto the wall?

You could get some long skinny canvases and paint the quotes on them then you could take them with you when you leave.

  • I know you said you don't have a sewing machine but there is alot of cute Dr Suess fabric at fatquartershop.com

It could be good for your pillow, or even framed for the walls.

  • You could also make some quick curtains out of Dr. Seuss fabric with that no-sew heat set ironing stuff (sorry, don't remember what it's called).
  • I love the idea of using big canvases.  You could do quotes or portraits of characters with colorful primary color backgrounds.  Easily movable for when you go.
  • It's not DIY but Amazon has wall decals that you should be able to transfer when you move.
