So sad......

Okay...... so I need to change my ticker......  I am so devastated - I have to retake Nursing III.......  Makes me so sad cause I (and this year is the first time I have even been able to think this) KNOW I'll make a great nurse, and I excell clinically.  My clinical instructor asked me to be her senior leader this semester for the class coming behind me and my clinical evaluation was one of the best I've ever seen......  but I got really sick this semester and thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to take an exam in the thick of my sickness..... WRONG!  I bombed that exam and the next two..... I feel like my ability to take an exam went away with the illness....... I am so sad......  I am now going to be in a different class and I LOVED my class to pieces......  also..... and the most devastating parts of this is that Seth now has to wait another semester (he is SO unbelieveably supportive of me, I am so fortunate) to be able to spend quality time with me...... and we have to put off getting KTFU for another semester!  I know that there is a reason for everything and someday I will look back on this and think "Thank GOD I stayed back!!!  If I hadn't stayed back.....XYZ!!!", but I wish I knew the reason NOW!!!!  Ugh.... I was so close, and now am so far away again.......
Nursing school is absolutely the single hardest thing I have ever done in my life!!! But when you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on!

  • I'm sorry Skye! You will make a great nurse! But look on the bright side, that's a few more months you have before having to pay off student loans!

  • Left Hug Skye Right Hug

Cry it out. This sucks. Then know that when you retake Nursing III, you're going to rock that class!

I know this isn't the same, but I had to take physics 3 times -- twice in high school and then a semester in college. By the third time, I was actually pretty good at it...and that was a class I hated!

  • That's crappy.

Any chance that they offer it as a summer class and you can still march in May with your friends, then get your diploma in August? They do that at UM.

Either way you will still be a fantastic nurse. Several ladies on here had seen you work and your professors think you are fabulous. Tests do not tell the whole story.

  • Oh Skye I feel for you! That really stinks for so many reasons. I agree, you're going to rock that class and it will be easy peasy (I had an O-Chem situation similar and found out that after it kicked my butt the first time I fell in love with it) BUT that doesn't make getting put in a different class without your favorite usual suspects any better. 1 more semester of putting off life after nursing school isn't going to be easy when you were so close but know that when you are out everyone needs to look out! Huge Hugs! I'm so sorry
  • That sucks. :( Nursing school tests are hard enough when you are healthy, never mind being sick.

What helped me the most with nursing III exams was to buy 2 NCLEX prep books and do all the questions in the section that the test was going to cover (cardiac, resp, etc).  I went to UMaine and the professors very closely based their test questions on NCLEX style questions, especially the last two semesters.

Good luck, and I'm sure you will do wonderfully the next time around. You will be a wonderful RN soon.

  • Ugh, I'm so sorry!!! You will be a rockstar RN but I'm sorry this kicks everything back a few months-- that's a huge bummer.

All of this!  I'm so sorry you have to extend school by another semester.  :-(

I know it's small consolation at the moment but I've lost count of the number of times that Nesties have worked with you and had a good experience.  From their reviews alone, I know you are going to be a great nurse, even if it won't be exactly when you want it to be.

  • ugh.  it's hard to look on the bright side of this one.  my brother found himself in a similar situation with occupational therapy.  no fun at all.  i'm sure you'll rock that course this time around and you can secretly laugh at them when you score a top notch job one day.

  • I'm so sorry for the let down, Skye! I wish that I had some awesome nursing words of wisdom for you but... nope. I know it's damn hard and I wouldn't even make it though one basic level class!

Silver lining for me though: Does this mean you'll still be at the hospital until graduation?!?!? I feel like putting your name on my birth plan so they have to assign you to me. :-D

  • Susie, thanks for putting a smile on my face!  And thank you all for your kind words!  As my mom always said: This, too, shall pass.  I know and have faith in that, but it's just a tough time right now.  Susie, I will be working (God willing) on my unit in my current position until December, 2012 or January, 2013 so I will be here waiting for you!  I love it when my peeps are here!!!  :)
