NROLFW / Running Question

So I started Stage 1 today, but I have a small dilmena:

I fully intend to keep running, including training for half marathons while I work the NROLFW program.  If I had to choose, running is my priority.

I usually run roughly 3 times per week, with a longer run or race on the weekend.  I know that NROLFW stresses having a rest day between workouts.  So, with that in mind, would it be better to run on the same day I lift and REST in between (I'm not 100% sure I have enough time to do this between work and picking up Connor every other week), or would it be better to do them on alternating days, which only leaves me one actual true rest day per week (I'm not 100% sure I'm disciplined enough to do this).

Opinions?

Re: NROLFW / Running Question

  • I don't know which one is better, so why don't you try each way and see what feel better to you? The workouts after stage 1 start getting longer, so you may not have time to do your long runs on those days.

What if you lifted 2x/week and ran 3x? Then you'd still have 2 complete rest days. I know lifting 3x/week is the ideal amount mentioned in the book, but 2x is still enough to get results. On average, I'm closer to lifting 2x/week than 3x. It'll just take longer to get through the program.

  • And this is why I haven't run since October.
  • I know some girls on the H&F board do both. You might ask over there what their training plans are like.
