Does anyone else have incredibly annoying coworkers??

Ok i apologize but i need to vent...

i love my job for the most part, except the fact that i have to work in an open area with two other co workers and the one is freaking annoying. When i say annoying...i mean plays this person plays their music out loud, hums if the music isnt on, chews on candy with their mouth open all day while making sucking noises....and throws hissy fits when they makes mistakes on stuff and gets emails or calls from our bosses asking to correct them. All on a daily basis...and i am not exaggerating.

NOT TO MENTION this person constantly says how much they want a divorce and constantly talks about how he thinks all these other women are sexy which i really dont care to hear. Its gross and creepy...and TMI. He also gets a least 2-3 phone calls from his spouse and child which proceeds into a full on yelling match of profanity and name calling. Between all of that and his non stop talking about ridiculous stories of his life...i think i might jump out a window!

somebody else please tell me im not the only one! Share your horror stories please!!!!

Re: Does anyone else have incredibly annoying coworkers??

  • You have basically described the same office setting and coworkers that I work with. Sometimes they will be spoken to or told to calm down and it settles for a bit but it always returns. If other coworkers are on the phone with clients those clients can hear these rants.

My coworkers also walk around and loudly state that they do not care...

  • Your manager needs to put the kibosh on the music and stuff.  The TMI is a little much, too.  Our office was pretty much on lock down. No music, no personal phone calls.  I mean, it sounds like your office doesn't need to go that far, but your manager should do more than talk to guy.

Gross situation all the way around.  It's bad enough to work with people like that, but to hear their intimate details or how they hate their spouse?  My sympathies.

  • I have a really loud coworker but unfortunately she isn't actually inappropriate like the guy you work with so I can't complain to the boss.  She just talks A LOT, is supper loud when she talks, has a really annoying laugh, and thinks everything is funny. Its almost always somewhat work related or joking around with co-workers and never a personal call so there isn't anything for me to complain about. I sit right by her so I have to hear it all the time but people who don't sit by her say they love her enthusiasm.

I listen to music with headphones whenever possible. When she starts to ramble on with me I say something like "I'd love to hear that story but let me finish XYZ because I know so-and-so is waiting on it".

I wish I worked in Germany where I hear there is no watercooler talk but longer vacation time.

  • Just say "Settle down, Beavis."

  • I have a co worker who thinks it is ok to call out sick on a weekly basis for mental health reasons.  (She only works three days a week to begin with.)  She is very slow at the work she does do when she's there and she's pretty much dead weight.  My bosses are aware, but really aren't doing much about her.  It's frustrating.  I'm really hoping they fire her once the holidays are over.

  • Mine is kind of the opposite. I work with a woman who whispers, I'd say 80% of the time she speaks and there's no rhyme or reason why. Also, when she coughs or sneezes, she tries to not cough or sneeze. She sounds like she's strangling herself when she does this. She sits in the cubicle across from me. Whenever she whispers my name to ask me a question I just make like I don't hear her and pretty much force her to use her grown-up voice to get my attention.

  • Headphones are your friends.
  • I know I am noise sensitive, but I always seem to sit by the loudest people in the office. I actually had a nemesis at my prior job because she had all the characteristics I could not stand. She would play her radio loud enough for me to hear every song perfectly and would sing along if she liked the song. I always knew if she was eating or not because she chewed and talked with her mouth open, along with sucking on candy or snapping/popping her gum. But I have also sat by the TMI people who discussed their current domestic abuse case or that their child support wasn't paid yet. Then there is the woman who would pour nuts into a cup and then shake the cup of nuts into her mouth.

I tried to let people know their annoying habits were wearing on me by personalizing it and saying "I caught myself popping my gum and I hate it when other people do it so I spit my gum out" or "I really like my headphones because I can listen to anything I want without bothering people". It wouldn't work. I also said something to my supervisor about it but she felt she couldn't discuss someone's personal habits with them. I then started to complain about it to other coworkers, hoping someone would eventually tell them. Nothing worked. I invested in a good pair of headphones and requested to be moved to new desks until I found a quiet one.
