Mexico in early August

Where do you recommend that won't be scorching hot?  We have 2 kids, who will be 3.5 and 5.5.  We want pools and beach and SAFE.  Happy to go to a resort that we don't have to leave.  We have a pretty loose budget, so any recommendations are great!

Thanks!

Re: Mexico in early August

  • It's Mexico, In August. It will be scorching hot if you're going on a beach vacation. It is rainy season and that can cool it down a little bit. It's also hurricane season, so be sure to book insurance!

  • August is the hottest time in Mexico but any time in Mexico is a good time.  As for the rain, I always tell people that it rains for 10 minutes every morning.

Check out the Akumal Beach Resort (AI and kid friendly).  I can't give any personal recommendations on the resort, itself, but I am partial to Akumal (have a condo and been going there since the early '90s).  It is a little village about 50 miles south of Cancun, halfway between Playa del Carmen and Tulum.  The beach there is wonderful and has great snorkling (there is also a dive shop right at the beach).  I can't think of a safer place to be with kids, and if you're lucky, you may see the turtles nesting (Akumal is a favorite turtle nesting spot).

We stayed at Dreams Cancun years ago and it seemed very kid friendly, although when we were there in September there weren't as many kids (prob because school was back in session).  I agree with others though, August is going to be HOT.  We like the August weather, plus it's cheaper because it's hurricane season and low season.

  • It will be hot in August, but we have been twice and it is fine if you plan to stay on the resort.  Perfect beach/pool weather.  The only times we were uncomfortably hot were when we had lunch at the outdoor restaurant at the resort when we first got there, and when we went to the ruins (Chichen itza and Tulum).  I think it will be fine.  I also would recommend the Beaches resorts for kids.
