Pittsburgh Nesties looking for visit ideas

Hi Ladies,  Your board is probably as dead on the weekends as ours is but I figured you would see it on Monday morning.  My family is headed down to Baltimore for the week and I am looking for kid friendly suggestions of things to do.  My husband has a conference so me and my 1 year old daughter will have to fend for ourselves for during the day.  Aquarium is on our list -  what else would you suggest?  Thanks so much!  I'd love any suggestions for restaurants as well.  TIA

  • I would say Port Discovery kids museum, but it may be a bit too old for her.

    Will you have a car?

  • Where are you staying...do you have a hotel yet? I can better advise restaurants once from there

there is a free bus with 3 routes called the charm city circulator, might want to check those maps out online to see where they go as they'll highlight major attractions along the way.

  • The Science Center and Port Discovery both have infant/ toddler rooms. When my daughter was that age we spent a lot of time at the Science Center, because she was able to explore some of the other areas as well.

If you do go to the aquarium, they do not allow strollers. They do have snugglis and backpacks for you to borrow, but if you have a carrier you like, I suggest you bring it. They have free, secure stroller checking.

If it is a nice day and you are in the Inner Harbor you could walk up to Federal Hill Park. It isn't the greatest of playgrounds but there is a nice view, and it is very toddler friendly.

As the pp stated the circulator is really handy. I travel on the circulator with my daughter all the time. If you use a stroller you may have to fold it. I believe some drivers are stricter than others. It can get crowded at rush hour and right when the school let out for the day. http://www.charmcitycirculator.com/

  • okay, so in front of you is the inner harbor and behind you is Fells Point (both along the water) and in between in Harbor East and Little Italy. The inner harbor has tourist type restaurants including Dicks last resort where they make fun of you, Hard Rock, Phillips (seafood but touristy), Mcccormick and Schmick (expensive seafood), Cheesecake Factory, Fogo De Chao (brazilian steakhouse), Ruth Chris. Fells Point will have smaller restaurants but most of them are bars (since you have a child maybe lunch there, although I can't think of any place that I think is awesome to eat there, but it is nice to stroll around). Harbor east is very trendy places like lebanese taverna, tapas restaurants, Ra sushi. Little Italy has italian restaurants of course all of which are very good and pretty similar in price. Amicci's would be good as it's a little more casual, relaxed...but I would also say Sabatino's, Ciao Bella, and La Scala. YOU HAVE TO GO TO VACARRO's for dessert!

When our you going, our restaurant week is later this month and they have lunch and dinner menus.

I would still check out the charm city circulator as it runs every fifteen minutes and goes to all the major attractions
