Black tie + pregnancy don't mix
Well, ***. I just got a wedding invitation in the mail for a wedding in late February that is black tie. I was already set to wear a cocktail dress that is belly-friendly until I found out it is black tie. Do you think I can fudge a cocktail dress if DH is wearing a tux? Or do you think I should break down and try and get a full length formal dress? The thought of buying one that fits my belly makes me sick.

Re: Black tie + pregnancy don't mix
How far along are you? Can you find something non maternity in an empire waist or something Grecian?
Star - that is what I am hoping will work from my closet. The only problem is that the dress comes to just below my knees. I could certainly go buy a longer dress that will flow over the bump, I just didn't want to have to buy something that was suitable for a round belly, and then not want it in a year. I already don't like full length dresses, and buying one that fits a belly really stinks. Maybe there is something cute out there...
I'm 15 weeks right now; I will be 22 weeks at the wedding. I'm not showing yet, but I've noticed in the past several days that my mid section is starting to look thicker to me. (by the way - I don't particularly care for that look)

I completely feel you on this one. When I was pg with dd I had a formal banquet and cocktail engagement party, both in my 3rd trimester. I found a dress for the banquet on eBay for pretty cheap. For the cocktail party I got a sparkly top at motherhood and paired it with capris and some accessories.
my cousin was in a wedding recently, and wore a kind of convertible grecian looking dress-- it was gorgeous and all the bridesmaids loved how comfy it was. it's one of those things you could wear whether you had a belly bump or not (and could wear after the baby as well). She's the tall one on the left.

Although, honestly... I would say just go with the short dress if you feel pretty and comfy in it. Ladies can get away with a little more where black tie is concerned. Unless you're going to the White House or something, I'd say you probably wont' be the only one in a shorter dress.

Agree with this. Maybe get a shawl or something to make sure your shoulders are covered to make a shorter dress a little more formal - and make sure you have fab shoes. You could even consider a black panty hose to distract from your leg (depending on the color of the dress).
A last ditch effort is to just find a cheap one that you won't feel bad about wearing just once. This one looks cute - I like the sequins at the top to dress it up, but it looks comfy.

OMG!!! I'm so out of the loop! Congrats!
Anyway, I got a cute long dress at Mimi Maternity for the HMNS Gala when I was about 4 months PG.
