What is your favorite kind of Birthday Cake? I want to make DH an awesome birthday cake this year, but I'm having a hard time coming up with anything as awesome as I was hoping I could come up with....
Thoughts?

Re: QOTD
I love cheesecake, that was my wedding cake.
I don't get birthday cakes anymore- just my son's since his birthday is the day after. We're not huge cake fans here anyhow.
dh loves boston cream pie (vanilla cake with pudding and chocolate frosting basically). Cookie cake.
I'm making a dino cake for T. chocolate and strawberry cake.

This - my cousin made one over the summer because our little cousin saw it in the store and asked for it and it was soooo good all the adults ate it in like one day!
I'm impressed with all of the funfetti responses. I want to make the cake from scratch... Is funfetti (not from a box) just vanilla cake with sprinkles mixed in? I wonder if it would work with chocolate cake.... Hm....
Bakerella had an awesome cake in her blog this morning (double layer chocolate cake with buttercream frosting with chocolate chips in the middle, plain buttercream frosting on the outside, then topped with chocolate ganache!) I might attempt that, because it looke amazing!
My dad always loved Carrot cake, so I enjoy that, and my mom always made what she called "coal miners cake". Basically a box of chocolate cake and a can of cherry pie filling mixed with an egg and baked. It is delicious, moist and it's awesome to find whole cherries in the middle of a cake, so that is probably my favorite bday cake...

I love cake. Funfetti is good, but I only know how to make it from the box but I bet it is just sprinkles in it. Yum!
My new favorite is vanilla or yellow cake with cake batter in it. Well, favorite cupcake. You bake the cupcakes and then syringe cake batter into a hole in the center. If you like cake batter, it is the best ever. I haven't made it yet, we got them in NYC, but we are going to try it. I know it sounds weird, but it's really good. They look like this:
Holy cow! That looks kind of amazing! Although, I'm not a huge fan of blue frosting... It just makes a mess

Another vote for Funfetti!
I also like yellow cake with butter cream frosting.
I must have one of these!

I agree! But I was willing to over look it because it was sooo good. Actually, I think I scraped most of the frosting off. I'm not a huge fan of frosting. It has to be very light and airy.
This is what I'm thinking of making at this point... Homemade double layer chocolate cake with buttercream and chocolate chip frosting in the middle, buttercream frosting on the outside with chocolate ganache on top! YUM! (this is from bakerella.com)

Another post about cake? Damn... I ate an entire pan of brownies last night and now I'm craving cake...
For my birthday, I LOVE 7-layer-cake that is a family recipe and it's special since it's once-a-year.
For anytime, I could live off of chocolate cake.
For DHs birthday, he loves oatmeal cake with vanilla ice cream. Don't let the term "oatmeal" fool you. It's totally not good for you, I promise.
That cake looks AMAZING.... you can make it for me!
Homemade cakes are THE.BEST. I vowed to never make a boxed cake again after I made a homemade cake (and then made boxed cake and it was awful!).
For the funfetti- definintely put sprinkles in it.
I'm making cake batter pancakes for my son's birthday breakfast! Saw it on pinterest

I haven't been here in a while but this post makes me want to jump right back in!
Chocolate cake with cream cheese icing
red velvet cake (the real kind, not with food coloring) with cream cheese icing
carrot cake with cream cheese icing (can you tell I LOVE cream cheese icing??)
baskin robbins ice cream cake (better than DQ IMO...i think DQ doesn't have an actual cake layer, right?? BR does and mint chip/choc is the best combo!)
tres leches cake (with fresh whipped cream frosting and bananas, mmmmm)
