S/o little dipper crockpot

I asked for a new crockpot for Christmas, b/c my old one had a crack in it and cooked waaay too hot, even on low.  My parents got me one, and included in the box with it was the little dipper.

I know I can use it for queso, but what else?  It did not come with a recipe book.  DH suggested maybe doing fondue in it, but I'm not sure...

Anyone have one and what do you use it for?

Re: S/o little dipper crockpot

  • I basically only use mine for queso... and that keeps it busy.  Embarrassed
    Bacon + Turkey + Duck + Chicken.
Too many layers of awesome, just like me. image
  • I use mine for gravy, just keeping it hot, and for melting chocolate for dipping.
  • We use it for queso, chocolate fondue (I love the Tyler Florence recipe), and my newest fav is dipping apple slices in caramel.  I used the recipe on the bag of caramel, basically half and half and caramels...yum!
  • I'd do fondue in it. If you get sick of chocolate and cheese, you can boil a can of sweetened condensed milk for 3 hours (take the wrapper off and throw the whole can in water), and you'll get dulce de leche.
  • Queso, dipping chocolate.  Warning, I found mine also cooked super hot and just read a trick for mitigating that by folding about 4-5 layers of aluminum foil into a collar to line the hot side of the crockpot (thank you, ATK).

  • I've done everything everybody else has mentioned plus fondue and dips. It works great if you're going to a potluck or something because you can bring dip in it and keep it warm all night.

    Impossible

  • I somehow ended up with two of the little guys...  so now one of them lives at my moms house (technically they both live here, since I'm now living here, but anyway...).  It's a nice size for dips, but not much else - my biggest issue is that it gets too hot.  I've done spinach artichoke dip in it once or twice and I'm constantly unplugging the thing and then plugging it back in, cheese would do well at the high temp, and I hadn't thought of it til you mentioned, but chocolate might do well too.

THANK YOU!  ATK always has the best ideas...

  • I put steel cut oats in there overnight for a hearty breakfasty kind of thing.
  • I use it for all the above mentioned uses, but I also cook smaller versions of crockpot meals in it pretty frequently. 1 or 2 chicken breasts, etc.
