PIPs: new kitties are home!

I picked them up Friday afternoon and all is going well. Spencer is pretty shy and still hiding in his crate a lot. Cooper is totally ready to rule the house and keeps trying to sneak out of the cat room.  They've had some exploring time (because Cooper was ready, and Spencer had the door open by default) and doing well.

It seems like Lily doesn't even notice them, but I'm sure she must - especially after they've been out exploring. She's been under the bed a bit more than usual, but not all that different. My Feliway refill should be here any day and hopefully that helps (I wish I had remembered to order it earlier).

Question: they have dry food out all the time and I'm feeding them wet twice a day... how much wet should I give them? I have never had kittens! (They're about 5 months old).

Re: PIPs: new kitties are home!

  • Cuties!!

If you have dry out all day I'd probably only do about a tablespoon each. I give Sherlock half a can of wet food each day, but he only gets a small amount of dry food.

ETA: I checked this against his caloric needs and it ends up being just about exact for a 9 lb cat. If you follow the guideline of 15 calories per pound, that should be good. But it will be hard to tell without knowing how much dry food they consume.

  • So cute! They seem to be adjusting well. Does the cat in the last picture have two different colored eyes? I couldn't tell if its just the camera. Congrats again & enjoy!

  • Yay for Spencer and Cooper!! They both look like they're getting quite accustomed to their new life!

Which one of Spencer's eyes is the bad one? I'm trying to figure out in the last picture which is his normal eye.

  • Yes, two different colored eyes due to injury in one of them.

In the bottom pic, you can see his left eye is brownish. He has green eyes, but that one is discolored due to the injury. They thought it was a blood clot back there when it was looking really bad. They never really did come to a firm conclusion on the situation, but it looks a lot better now and doesn't seem to bother him anymore.

  • Glad to hear he's feeling better too.

  • Yay! I love seeing pictures of everyone kitties! They look almost identical (in the pics) but one looks to be fluffier?

  • Handsome boys!  I feed a tablespoon of wet 2 times per day, adult cats and kittens both get the same.

Yes, one's long haired and one is short - also the short haired one has a black spot on his nose. Otherwise, it's uncanny how similar their white patterns are!  They have different shaped heads too and Spencer's eyes are much smaller. Only a momma would pick up on all this stuff already though ;-)  I love my boys!
