Anyone have a Tempur-pedic mattress?

We desperately need a new mattress and a couple we know is *raving* about their new Tempur-pedic. Just looking for any other opinions on these and also which model you have. TIA!

Re: Anyone have a Tempur-pedic mattress?

  • We've had a Serta foam mattress for years and love it, to the point where it's difficult to sleep on a regular mattress when traveling.

  • After almost a year of mattress shopping, we finally just took the plunge on the Tempur Pedic select comfort. It was just so much better than everything else we tried that for such a long term investment it seemed worth it. It takes about a month to really "break in" so the first couple weeks aren't the best, but it gets better. We have had ours about 2 weeks now and the last week about I have been really waking up ready to move and not feeling crappy for the first time in forever.

  • We have a memory foam mattress from Coaster furniture, and while I did not want a foam mattress initially, now I'm totally sold. The non-transfer of motion is awesome.

I've slept on a real tempur-pedic, and I can't tell the difference - especially for the price.

  • We have a memory foam mattress (generic tempurpedic). I wasn't sold on it at first so that was our compromise. We actually got the adjustable one at DH's insistance. I love it now and am eager to get back to my own bed when staying at hotels.

eta: the one thing holding me back was people complaining about being to hot with the mattress. the memory foam one said it had a cooling layer, which sounded gimmicky but we gave it a shot anyway. I haven't had a problem  with it but I also always sleep with fans on.

  • We adore ours. We've had it for a fairly long time at this point...about 8 years, I think. We bought it long before they had all these different versions with different features. At the time, the only difference between the 3 levels offered was mattress thickness (we went with the middle option). We'll never go back to a regular mattress.

I've heard a few complaints about the foam smell but it goes away very quickly. Also, they are pretty heavy and difficult to move but that is a non-issue for lots of people. When we move, we'll hire movers so that "con" isn't really an issue for us. Some people find the mattress warm but we've never noticed an issue. You can get one with air-flow chambers now if you guys are really hot sleepers.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a "knock-off" that is still good quality. When we bought ours, there really wasn't any competition on the market but there is quite a bit out there now.

  • If you want to save on costs, I saw this one when researching them at one time.  It looks like the reviews are really great (and free shipping):

If you want to "try out" the memory foam feel first w/o a big cost, we got something similar to this for our guest room b/c the mattress up there is stiff as a board.

  • We bought the Tempurpedic Cloud Luxe after the hurricane of 2008 - I was pregnant with Noah. We still love it. http://www.tempurpedic.com/TEMPUR-Cloud-Collection/Tempur-Pedic-TEMPUR-Cloud-Luxe.asp

  • Be sure to check out the play in the mattress. I have heard from several people (mostly guys) that they are not very good for sex.

  • We have an off brand one from Costco and got it last January. I love it. I was very worried about it being hot, but it is not. I absolutely love that we can get out of bed without disturbing the other person. It took about 6 weeks for the smell to go away completely. One month in, I was still considering returning it. DH stopped smelling it after about 2 weeks so he thought I was crazy. Costco has awesome return policies, which is why I was willing to try it.

Although it doesn't have much bounce back it hasn't inhibited anything.  I guess it depends on how dependent he is on springs. Wink

  • We bought a memory foam mattress at the Dump. I've been happy with it so far.

  • We bought a tempurpedic this summer and I LOVE it.  No more back or hip pain. I sleep so much better and have a heard time sleeping on anything else now.  It was pricey but we got 0% interest for 3 years along with free delivery & setup and 2 free tempurpedic pillows (best invention EVER).  I sometimes wake up hot but our room tends to be on the warm side anyways so I did before we got the mattress.  It really is the best money we have ever spent.
