Honest Opinion (Baby Name Related)

I know we still have plenty of time, so I'm not stressin' too much yet. We are pretty much set on our top three girl names, but we are having a hard time with boy names.

I really like the name Aldo (after Aldo Leopold) but Jake thinks it might be a little out there. So, he suggested Leopold and calling him Leo for short. Do you gals like either name? Is Aldo a weird name? :-)

Feel free to throw out your suggestions too.

  • 1. What happened to Jude? Not feeling it this time around?

    2. Aldo - eh, not a fan. Leo - love!

  • I don't hate Aldo, but I don't love it because all I can think about is the shoe brand.  I guess it just doesn't register as a first name to me.  I do love Leo though.

  • At first glance, I thought you said Alpo.  So, not a fan.  Love Leo though.

It's still a contender, but as of recently lots of people in the Des Moines area having been naming their baby boys Jude. I have a feeling it's going to become pretty popular.

  • I prefer Leo, and I prefer it over the long version Leopold.  It just seems hard to say to me, while Leo is short and sweet!

LOL! That would not be good. Nothing like having your child's name be associated with dog food. HA!

  • I may be pronouncing it wrong but I think Aldo would get confused with Waldo a lot. I like Leo a lot better. Maybe Aldo as a middle name?

This is what I thought too. I've only heard Aldo in relation to the shoe store.

    I like Leo/Leopold

  • Also, I think Leopold is Butters real name on South Park. Not sure if you care, just throwing that out there.
  • Have you tried nymbler.com? I just put in Leopold, Aldo and Jude and it came up with Milo or Levi, both of which I love, but it may help you two get some more suggestions in the running.

Duh! I totally forgot about nymbler and I LOVE that site. Thanks!

I like Levi but my good friend has a Levi, so that's out. :-( Milo is cute though.

Thanks for your honesty, gals. I tend to like weird names, so sometimes I need perspective. Aldo Leopold is one of Jake and I's favorite people, so we thought it would be cool to somehow pay homage to him.

  • I worked with an Aldo many years ago, so the name seems common to me. I like it. Leo is good too.

This is good to hear. :-) Was he a good guy?

  • I prefer Aldo.  I'm not sure what I don't like about Leo...I feel like I have a bad name association with this one - so that's, obviously, my own thing.  I do like Aldo though.

I really like Milo (as suggested by nymbler).  Love it.

  • I can get behind Leopold (Leo), but don't care for Aldo. To me, it brought up thoughts of pets--like Aldo is a good name for a dog, a cat, etc. And I did think of the Alpo similarity, too (which, hey, maybe contributes to my association to pets, haha).

I do think Milo is great, too.

  • I also thought the shoe when I read Aldo. I like Leo (but not a fan of the longer Leopold).

Milo is super cute (either way it's pronounced).

  • Like PP, I too think of Alpo dog food when I see/hear Aldo.  So it would be a no for me.  Leo is cute.  I like Jude too.

  • Aldo, all I can think of is the shoe store, so eh, not a fan.  I do think Leo is really cute, but I like just Leo, not Leopold.  For Leopold I just think of Kate and Leopold, although I do LOVE that movie!
  • Am I the only person that knows of Aldo Leopold? :-) HA!

And, I've only heard of this show company a few times. I need to catch up on my fashion stuff. :-)

  • Honestly, I'm not a fan of Aldo or Leo.  I think Leo would be a cute name for a little boy, but I can't see the name transitioning to adulthood well.

I always liked your pick Jude.  Milo is good, and I also like Miles for a boy.

  • For some reason, Aldo reminds me of a dog. I'm sorry. Embarrassed

    Love Leo, though!

  • Neither are my style, but I also don't think either of them are out there. My only question is: Aldo like Allen or like Waldo?
  • LIke other ladies have said, Aldo makes me think of the shoe store, but I love Leo.  Milo is super cute too.

  • Leo R-L sounds AWESOME imo!

    Definitely this!

  • I like both names.

Leo seems to be gaining in popularity around here though; not sure if that's true where you live.

Aldo I really like.  My only hesitation is I think there's a shoe store @ the mall with the same name.  But again maybe not in your neck of the woods.

  • Aldo reminds me of alpo dog food.

  • I actually like both names, and Milo like PP suggested. I agree that Jude is cute, but becoming more popular. One of my husband's co-workers just named her son Jude.
