Portable Potty Q

Caroline is making leaps and bounds with potty training and we're now dealing with her wanting to go potty out and about. Holding her over the toilet is kind of a pain when juggling purse, coats etc. at this point. Lovely how some stalls still don't have hooks. Anyways, I was looking at these because they fold and I could slip it into my purse. Seems some people love them, but others say they cut the kiddos bum. yikes! I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience with something similar. I'm not worried about germs as much as her falling in and not being comfortable.

Re: Portable Potty Q

  • Yay Caroline! That's great that she is doing so well!

I don't have experience with the one you posted, but we have this travel potty seat: http://amzn.com/B0016L0MMS It's a bit bulky but fits in our backpack diaper bag fine and it makes him very comfortable out and about. We haven't had to use it as a stand alone seat, but like that it had that option.

  • We used that same potty seat for the first few months with DD. Now she can (and prefers to) balance on her own. I had no problems with it.

We also have the potty seat Sarah linked, but I never used it on top of a toilet. I just keep it in the trunk in case of an urgent potty need when we're not near a toilet. It came in very handy in the cell phone parking lot at Logan!

  • Yay for Caroline!  I actually just took our potty seat w/ us the first few outings (after that I didn't need it).  We have a Baby Bjorn and it's very slim - I just slipped it in a large disposable plastic bag and would stash it under the stroller.  At the time, Katie was a little baby and I would be juggling all of that plus a baby strapped to me...fun!  I remember once Jake unexpectedly had to poo at a museum and it was way past our traveling-with-the-seat phase, so I literally crouched at the potty, held/hovered him over it while he completed his "business", and Katie was in the Ergo on my chest haha.  It was insane.  Anyway, GL and hang in there!

  • Fun times indeed! I feel like now is when I'll really start earning those Mommy badges of honor. She was in the middle of Caraba's yesterday and told the waiter "Pee.Peeeeee. Now!" I just thought the fold up thig would be nice because I could go through a restaurant and everyone wouldn't have to see anything :) we don't really use the stroller during the winter.

Oh my goodness I can't imagine doing his with anoter stepped to me! Hopefully, she'll be all done before then. She's been going here and there since Sept  about 17 months but we had to hold her back a bit because of travel and then my surgery so now she is rearing to go this past month. Fingers crossed but she's young so I'm not too worried either.

Kimberly, glad to hear you had no problems and Helen didn't suffer and cuts!

  • Awesome Caroline!  We have this one.  It's a little bulky but fits in the diaper bag and works fine in most potties. Some of the bigger restrooms it's not big enough, but I think you'd find that with the other potty seat too.  Mostly it's easiest to hold him like a frog and have him pee backwards in the potty if that makes sense (His back is against my chest and I hold the legs to the side/up).  That's the way that's shown in a lot of the elimination communication info and it works well.

  • As much as I'm a little bothered that my 2.5 year old NEVER uses the potty, reading all these posts makes me so glad that I don't have to deal with any of this nonsense yet. :)

  • We never used one... they hold themselves up really well or I support them so that they can "aim"... they don't have a potty at my mom's house so they are used to it... and then I just make sure to scrub them up really good before we leave the bathroom!

Think this my be a little difficult for a girl?

  • It showed doing that for both boys and girls...I'd give it a try.  The nice thing is they're close to your body, so it may be easier to control to lean in a way to aim rather than having a baby flopping around the otherway.  Granted they started it all with younger kiddos who were small...but Caroline is tiny (and cute!).

  • Thanks :) Yeah, she is tiny so it's difficult to have her hover over a seat without anything! Makes me so nervous which doesn't help her. I don't want her to be nervous out and about b/c that will deter her from wanting to go.  Oh, btw JiJi, can't wait to see you at the playgroup. I keep forgetting that #2 is on the way with you! So exciting!

I feel the same about hovering over the seat. ick....which is why I like the froggy position so I can be sure he doesn't touch anything gross.  Yeah for playgroup!  It's been too long!
