Already headed for divorce

After the hubby and i got married it was like something in him changed. Now he wants a divorce. We agreed even before married I would stay at home for one his hours are crazy and that way i could see him and 2 i have a 5 year old (which is not his) Now hes trying to put us both out on the street. We have went to marriage workshops but if he hears something he doesn't like he just shuts it off. I am very concerned seeing that i haven't been working and seriously have no place to go..no family nothing..I was just wondering if anyone knew what kind of help if any I could receive from the military just til i can get on my feet.I am just devastated because I really want it make this work but he is dead set on leaving me. Any help would be great

  • I'm sorry you're going through this.  Top three places for you to call today: Base legal office, Family Readiness Center, and Military One Source.  Good luck.

Ditto.  He is required to give you financial support, so you won't just be homeless and poor.  Start looking for arrangements for where you can stay.  Once it is determined how much he will give you a month, set up a bank account with an automatic allotment for it to go into.  If he ever cancels the allotment you can contact the command via the Ombudsman/Key volunteer/whatever it is called for your branch to have him send you your money.

  • You've only been married 3 months?

If you've only been married such a short time, is an annulment an option?

  • We were legally married Sept 9th and the state i live in its hard to get annulment than an actually divorce you have to meet a certain criteria which we meet none
  • Based on your profile, it appears you're in South Carolina.  Their Lawyer Referral Service is (800) 868-2284.  Their court's website says to call that and ask for a Family Law attorney in your county.  The attorneys they refer to have all been in practice more than three years, are in good standing, and have agreed to provide a 30 minute consultation for no more than $50.

If your income is not more than 125% of the Federal Poverty Guideline, you can call (888) 346-5592 for reduced cost legal aid.

    Good luck.
