Recommend your blender - especially if you make smoothies

The blender on my motor died a million years ago and I never replaced it.  I do have a hand immersion blender, but I want to start making some green smoothies for the family for breakfast and I'm not sure the little guy will be able to handle all of that action.  Does anyone make a lot of smoothies in their blender and it's holding up well?  I can't afford a vitamix or something along those fancy lines.

Any recs?

Re: Recommend your blender - especially if you make smoothies

  • I really like my magic bullet for smoothies. It is a single serve smoothie so not sure if you are doing this for just you or for the whole family, but I use ours a few times a week and have had it for I think 3 years now it is holding up just fine.
  • I make smoothies almost every day, and I hated doing it with every blender I have. I got this for christmas and I love it! It makes everything so easy and it's so much quieter than a blender.

If you still want a blender style, my parents have the KitchenAid one and love it.

  • I also use the magic bullet for our smoothies. I've had ours for almost 4 years and have used it daily for the last 2+ years for DH & I and it's still working.

  • Another vote for the immersion blender. I use our stick blender all the time for smoothies, and DH uses it for milkshakes. I use frozen fruit in them, and it's never had a problem. I think we have the Cuisinart one linked above, and I really like it.

  • Another magic bullet vote. We use it for smoothies, milk shake, frozen drinks, soups, baby food, I also made whipped cream in it, sauces etc.

  • I have a viking immersion blender that I am obsessed with. I haven't touched a real blender since I got it. So perfect for smoothies, shakes, etc and way less mess
  • Ours is either a kitchenaid or cuisinart blender. Had it for 5 years and make smoothies almost every day. I don't think an immersion blender would work for our smoothies b/c we freeze our bananas and it takes a good bit of blending to get them smooth...

  • Another vote for the magic bullet.  We've had ours for about 3 years and use it multiple times per week.  LOVE it & the fact that it seems so much easier to clean up than the big blender that we have (& never use anymore b/c its a PITA to clean). lol
no identifiable siggy pictures anymore, thanks a lot stupid nest!
  • We have a Blendtec Blender.  I can't say enough good things about it.  It compares to a Vitamix and can chop up anything.  It makes great smoothies.  It even has a hot setting for making soup.

I actually almost always use frozen fruit with my immersion blender and it works much better than my blender ever did, so I don't think this would be a problem.

  • We have a Vitamix that we got at Costco and we love it.  I use it as a blender, food processor, and you can make soup and ice cream in it also.  It is so nice to have 1 machine that does everything and actually does it well.
  • For about a year I used my immersion blender to make my daily smoothie.  Worked great.  Then, I got out of the habit and somehow our immersion blender got DONATED when we moved!  I bought a Ninja on sale at Kohl's last year.  It was just under $100 and it's AMAZING!!!  Dangerous to clean because it has 3 vertically placed, crazy sharp blades but it's so fast for smoothies, I love it!
