Not the terrible twos!

I have had friends of mine staying with me for a few weeks as they get back on their feet. This is not the problem, they are good friends and I am happy I am able to help. Luckily, I have a huge house!

My problem is this: now that they are both working again (yay!) I am babysitting their kids for the next two weeks while they work until they move into their new apartment. The baby I can handle, but the two year old, OMG. My son is 13 and I must of been amazingly blessed (or I forgot in self defense!) when he was two because she is a very active kid. I am running out of things to do with her to keep her entertained and need help! I am only 36 but I feel like I am 100 at the end of the night LOL.  She is super smart but has the attention span of a...two year old Smile Any ideas?

Re: Not the terrible twos!

  • Water play. Pull a chair up to the sink, fill one side up with bubbles and one side up with clear waterand give her a bunch of plastic cups and pitcher things for her to pour and splash with.

Ball rolling back and forth on the floor.

Let her help with housekeeping. Give her a dust vac and let her vacuum up little things for you. Give her a magic eraser and let her wipe the cabinets for you, or hand you things out of the dishwasher to put away.  Give her a spray bottle of water, show her how to spritz the wall and wipe off with a towel.

Stacking blocks as high as possible.

Stacking and unstacking cans from your cupboard, and in and out of the cupboard.

Long, long walks outside. The more outside time she has the tireder she'll be; and you'll feel refreshed after a walk and less claustrophobic. Do it even if it's cold outside. Go to the park and feed the ducks, play on the swings etc.

Sidewalk chalk, if it's nice enough.

You're a terrific friend, by the way.

SO SINGS MY SOUL *WHAM!* MY SAVIOR GOD TO THEE *WHAM!* HOW GREAT THOU ART *WHAM!* HOW GREAT THOU ART *WHAM!*
  • Oooo blocks! Duh. I still have tons in the basement from my son. And she just helped clean. Now everything in my house under 3 feet tall is kinda-sparkling LOL.

Off to whip up some bubbles. How did I forget all this stuff so fast????

And thank you, but they are terrific friends to me :-)
