If you have a shiny black fridge you must read this!

DH and I splurged on a  nice fridge Thanksgiving week after our old one kicked the bucket- making a huge mess and spoiling hundreds of dollars of food.

I got a black fridge, like my old one... except the new one is shiny and the old was textured.

Christmas cards came, and of course I put them on my beautiful fridge with magnets.....

Took the cards down last week and had a melt down- there were fine scratches all over it from the magnets... dummy me, I never realized how easy these new, shiny fridges scratch. NOT very practical.. can't imagine what kind of damage kids could do to them!

I read online that if you put turtle wax on it you can buff the scratches out.... It's taken several coats, but my fridge is back to looking spanking new! :)

I guess the key is canuba (sp?) oil and filling the fine scratches so that they don't bend light.

It works!

  • hm.  We have a shiny black fridge (got it beginning of November) and 2 kids and lots of magnets on it (kids magnets and regular magnets) and I don't see any scratches on it....even getting up close to look. Maybe it's a certain brand that is just more prone to scratches?  I will definitely keep an eye out for scratches and keep your remedy in the back of my head, thanks for the tip!
  • Mine's a GE... And apparently just the weight of the cards and slight sliding caused VERY noticeable scratches on it. I was (and still am) disappointed with it.
  • good to know, as we now have a shiny black fridge!

  • Oh no!  Glad there is a fix to that.  Wonder if that trick will fix my scratch stainless steel tiles (which I knew would scratch eventually when I ordered them, but would still like to try some sort of fix)
