s/o: Vacation Days

s/o of planning post below; I'm curious, how many vacation days do you get a year?[Poll]

Re: s/o: Vacation Days

  • special snowflake. 2 weeks paid, pretty much as much as I want (within reason) unpaid.
Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:
Alison's book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • I get 15 vacation days, but also 7 personal days.
  • Can you edit the poll? I get 15 days, but I don't know whether to click 11-15 or 15-20...it would be better not to have overlap in the answers.
  • 18+6 holidays.  In 12 months, I get another 6 days for a total of 30 days a year.

We can roll over 5 days into the next year.

  • We get 5 weeks and can do unpaid also.

  • I get 2 weeks vacation (10 days), 6 paid holidays, and 2 floating holidays (generally assumed for the day after TG & Christmas Eve).  No sick time.  I can also take unpaid time off within reason.

H on the other hand gets 4 weeks vacation (20 days), 12 holidays, 4 personal days, 4 sick days, plus 1 day per month as 'employee appreciation'.  He sucks.

  • I get 3 weeks a year - it accrues on a per pay period basis and does roll over.

  • This year I will get 16 paid vacation/use as you wish days, and 10 holidays. Its on an accrual basis like pp, and I dont get them all up front, but they do roll over :)

    Updated.

Shoot; this may skew things; but I updated poll to say how many paid days. Thanks for pointing out!

  • I get 27 (25 vacation + 2 personal days), but I can only carry over 10 days per year.

And I get vacation days refunded if I fall sick for more than a week.

  • I am a teacher at a private school in London so I get about 16-17 weeks, but I don't have a choice of when I take them so that sucks and travel is way more expensive.

My husband gets 35 days vacation.

  • Three weeks vacation, 12 holidays, 5 sick days, no rollover- use it or lose it.

  • 22 vacation days per year, plus unlimited sick days.  We can carry over up to 3 weeks of vacation per year.  Due to carry overs I have almost 7 weeks of vacation this year.
  • Currently per year: 10 paid vacation, 7 sicks days (both rollover; although can only accumulate up to 20 sick sicks); also 2 floating holidays and 7 paid holidays (within one yr; no rollover)
  • 26 days per year of paid vacation, plus 10 holidays. I also can carry over 240 hours of leave each year. In addition, I can earn compensatory time off for "overtime". I did not include sick time as any unused sick leave counts towards my years in service for retirement. So I have not taken sick leave in a a long time.
  • We own our business so basically can take time off whenever we want.
  • I don't think having as many days off as you want when you are self-employed is the same as when you are a SAHM or unemployed.  I can take off as much time as I want, but when I don't work, I don't get paid, and might piss off my clients, so it's not really unlimited.
  • I currently receive 15 days of vacation and 8 paid holidays. I accrue the vacation on a per pay period basis, but am only allowed to roll-over 5 days at the end of the year (must be used by June 30), which is really frustrating! I am also able to take a little time off unpaid, but it is frowned upon in my current position. Previously, I was with the same company but in a larger department and was allowed to take a ton of time off unpaid (up to 4 weeks). I can't do that anymore though.

  • I am a teacher so I get 1 week for spring break, 1 week for Thanksgiving. 2 weeks for Christmas and some national holidays sprinkled in plus summers off.

I also am given 5 days to use as I please during the school year for dr. appts. and sick days.

Yep-I am one of those annoying teachers that get all that time off!

  • I get 15 vacation days, 2 personal, and 5 paid holidays (Memorial, 4th of July, Labor, Xmas and New Years.)
  • I get like 21 days, which count as my vacation/sick days. Plus 6 or 7 paid holidays. We can accumulate up to like 300 hours before they disappear or something happens to them.
  • Our PTO is accrued and includes everything (sick, vacation and personal time).  At the rate I'm currently accruing, I get approximately 18 days a year but unused time rolls over which is really nice. My boss currently has about 6 months of PTO in her bank.

  • I get 4 weeks vacation + 9 paid holidays + Christmas to New Year's shutdown + 7 sick days.  I can roll over up to 8 weeks of vacation and 14 sick days.  Too bad I never end up with any by the end of the year!

  • I'm a SAHW and I think my DH will likely retire / take a LONG leave of absence from the working world within the next year, so we have pretty flexible travel times.  I think in 2013 our goal is to spend half the year traveling, then we'll settle down and have a baby (or two)... at which point in time I anticipate that DH will probably want to work again (but I won't make him).
  • In 2012 I earn 12 days (4 weeks) and have 2 personal choice holidays.  But I also bought 5 days so a total of 19 days.

Totally being nosy.  Do you live in the U.S.?  How old is your DH?

It sounds like you either live in another country, are married to someone much older, or are independently wealthy.  Possibly a combination of all three.

    Your comment just intrigued me.

  • I am a special snowflake.

I get 3 weeks vacation plus 1 week for CME (so I use this to go to conferences in places I haven't been:)

    I get 5 days sick/personal and 5 holidays

It sometimes feels like it isn't enough  time off
