Derm Skin Peel/Extraction

I have alot of blackheads that I hate. My derm gave me an rx but said the best way to get rid of them was the do a peel (or two) and then work on keeping them away.

However, we plan to start IF treatments in the next few months which means I can't take the strong rx to keep my skin clear.

Anyone have a skin peel and extraction done? How was it?

I just can't decide if I should do the peel/extraction now or after baby #2...which maybe awhile until we are pregnant with our history.

Or insurance pays for most of it. I just can't decide if it will be worth it, or a waste of time since I will only be using Dove soap while pregnant, which isn't the best at keeping blackheads away. I do use the Clarisonic though, which will help.

Sorry for the rambles. I guess I'm just looking for those who've had them done. Was it worth it? Was it painful? Did it help alot with future acne/blackheads/scars/etc?

Re: Derm Skin Peel/Extraction

  • If I were you I would go and get a blackhead clearing facial. They still feel really good and my face stayed clear for quite a while. I used the tea tree black head scrub from the body shop while pregnant too and loved it! Just used it once a week because you should not scrub your face often, just gentle washes!
  • I have some major discoloration, melasma or mask of pregnancy that has never gone away..I have always waited in hopes when I am done done with babies I could get it dealt with.  I figure it would just get worse and I didn't want to un do it? But I agree with a facial for now..sorry for the ramble :)

  • Before I got pregnant I did microdermabrasion and chemical peels.  The chemical peels can really dry out your skin.  I even got a minor burn with it.  I'd recommend just trying microdermabrasion as that basically sucks out the junk and also scrapes off a layer of skin so you have a fresh face.  I go to and like Iowa Clinic Plastic Surgery.
