New here! (& Questions for Fallon,NV nesties)

First off let me say hi! I'm new here on the nest, I have been aRound the knot and the bump before. DH and I have been married for 2 years, we have 2 of the cutest kids I've ever met and we have a pretty good life. We are Navy, and are PCSing, I wouldn't say soon but, I kind of want to get a head start on looking for our next place and be more prepared as far as what to expect.

We are considering Fallon, NV but I wanted to see what people have to say about it first. We have thoughtbaboutnliving out west, because we have always heard pretty good things about the western part of the world lol. But neither of us have actually been there to confirm that. We are both midwesterners and then lived in VA for 4 years. I am asking Fallon, NV nestles to tell me what your experience is like there or your past experience? What was it like for or as a military member to work there with a family? Would you ever recommend a friend to live there? Are there activities for toddlers? Is the school system good or bad? What is cost of living like?

The general, do I want to move to this place and stay for 3 years (possibly longer) or will I regret that decision and should look for something else?

TIA!!!!!!!! I really appreciate everything you can tell me!

  • You might try the local boards, if you haven't yet.

  • I thought about doing that first but I figured there could be some mil families there. I kinda wanna know what base is like also. If living on or off would be better or not. But I will ask there too! Thanks for the tip!
  • Hahaha I just went over there and there is one post in there. Lol no one ever goes to that page I guess.
  • You might also try searching for Facebook groups or pages related to the base you're looking at.

  • My XH lived in Fallon. He was able to buy a house on an E4 salary, so there's that. He also complained about being bored.
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • We were stationed there.  It is a small town.  Not much there.  We didn't have kids so I don't know about stuff for kids.  It's about an hour from Reno.  I didn't think there was much there in terms of jobs.    I actually liked it there.  I would consider going back there again if I could find a job that wasn't an hour away.  Cost of living was not medium (on the lower side I guess).  Let me know if you have more questions.
