Honeymoon on a buget help!

I'm getting married this fall and am looking for a honeymoon, perferably a bed and breakfast. We are on a tight budget, around $1000 for 5 days lodging. This budget does not include food, transportation, or activities. This amount s a wedding gift from my parents.

We'd like to stay in the West Virginia,Virginia, New York or even Kentucky area. We are looking for a low key honeymoon in the mountains with some shopping, wineries,  maybe a fireplace or jacuzzi in the room.

Any suggestions? I know this is sorta difficult!

  • Your budget is actually quite doable. I would also suggest you look at renting a condo or home. Check out www.vrbo.com

I remember looking at cute places in Asheville, NC

i have also seen some amazing b&bs in all the areas you are looking at.

  • What about Tennessee?  I've been to Gatlinburg a few times and while the town itself isn't really my cup of tea (very touristy), I like the general area of the Smoky Mountains for views, relaxing, and outdoor activities.  There are tons of cabins at all different price points to choose from and many have beautiful views of the mountains with private outdoor jacuzzis.  You could easily get a nice, romantic cabin for under $1000 and use the kitchen to cook your own meals if you'd like.

I live in Kentucky and love the central area (Louisville, Lexington, and various places for day trips and hiking in the east), but I wouldn't recommend it for your honeymoon if you'd like to stay in the mountains.  There doesn't seem to be as many nice options for places to stay in the mountains here, and I think you'd enjoy TN or NC more.

I also like the PP's suggestion of Asheville.  It's been a long time since I visited, but I remember it was lovely.  I'd like to go back someday.

  • The Charlottesville area in Virginia sounds perfect for your requirements.  There are tons of b&bs and cabin rentals in the mountains surrounding Charlottesville.  I would check out tripadvisor.  I liked the Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm in nearby Crozet (less than 20 minute pretty drive from town).  The Wildflower Room is romantic - fireplace, bay window with view, big four poster bed.  There are several wineries in the area - look up the Monticello wine trail.  Barboursville Vineyards is supposed to be great, and there is a well-known restaurant Palladio there.  They also have their own lodging which I've heard is nice but I think it's on the expensive end (worth checking out, though).  Downtown Charlottesville is pedestrian-friendly with restaurants, shops, bars, and I recently went to a great new wine bar there.  The area is very laid-back and beautiful.

I agree with this, I think Charlottesville is great, and there seem to be a lot of wineries popping up in Virginia.  But where are you coming from, I think we would like to help you try something new for your honeymoon!

  • Most high end B&Bs in the NY metro area are way more than $200 per night.  Have you checked out Priceline?  It may not get you the room amenities though & I'm not sure exactly waht areas they serve.  You will haev to research biddingfortravel & betterbidding.com

    Good luck & happy planning.

  • It would be in September
  • This is our favorite VA inn (http://www.laubergeprovencale.com/). Right near the wineries and a fantastic restaurant on the property.

  • Come to NC! Asheville is great, you may also want to look into the Blowing Rock/Boone area.
