Girl's racy picture banned from yearbook..

Re: Girl's racy picture banned from yearbook..

  • I saw this on Yahoo Headlines.  I can't imagine my mom would have let me have a picture like that when I was in high school... Maybe that's just me.

I wouldn't even have been able to leave the house like that, let alone have my picture taken for the school yearbook.  Confused

  • When I clicked on the link and saw the photo I thought her photo was for something else (i.e. Playboy) and because someone came across her photos, she wasn't allowed to be in the yearbook. Then I read that she wanted THAT PHOTO in the yearbook. No way would I put that in the yearbook. She does not look like a high school student. Oh my... I'm just speechless.

  • I totally agree with the ban, it's just unnecessary.  This is not your modeling portfolio, this is a yearbook (and not just yours, I might add!)

This just irritates me that she thinks she's entitled.  "They are not allowing me to have my freedom of expression"  What expression?  That you take trampy photographs?  Get over yourself.

Yes  My thoughts exactly.  Further proof that you can sue over just about anything.

I think the administration was MORE than accommodating by suggesting that they use the picture in other place in the yearbook and just not as her senior picture.  Personally I don't think it should be allowed in there period.  You wouldn't be allowed to walk around the halls of school dressed like that, so why should be able to present yourself that way in the yearbook?

  • This is HIGHSCHOOL, not college or even playboy... That's just a silly thing to get your panties in a bunch over...

My mom would never let me out of the house like that!

I was surprised they were offering to place it somewhere else too. And I definitely agree that if you cannot wear it at school, you should not be able to put it in the yearbook. (*With possible exception to hats. For a time-being, hats were not allowed in my HS due to cheating, I think.)

  • You know, if I recall correctly, we had to have a standard head/shoulder shot taken for the yearbook our senior year.  I could be wrong, but I do know for sure there were certain guidelines we had to follow in regards to the picture we submitted for our senior year.

  • We did too, Steph. It not only had to be a head/shoulder shot, I think you had to wear black or white and have a blue background or something.

Yep, us too.  Although there were always a few that didn't follow the directions but they weren't dressed like that.  It was more their families couldn't afford the pictures so they used another less formal shot.

I'm appaled at the mother who is allowing this to become a big deal.  Why would you want to parade your daughter on national news programs and advertise that she dresses like a hussy.  Unless you're hoping for a modeling contract or publicity that will further her ummm...career.  Way to be a parent, mom.

This exactly!  I think sometimes people let the parent's bad behavior slip their mind and  they focus on the child.   I really doubt the child contacted the media about this issue.

  • What a dumbazz. Seriously. She's made because she doesn't get freedom of expression because she's pratically showing off her who-ha in senior pictures. Her mom needs to get a grip and understand that girls that age should not be wearing that type of clothing, especially if it's for a senior photo. You would think that the students had requirements for their senior photos. I know we did; blue background, girls wore a nice top and the guys wore a shirt and tie. I'm not sure why they would even allow a full body shot like that.
  • Ditto everyone - and wtf is wrong with her mom?! There is no way either of my parents would've been cool with me dressing like that in HS let alone having it photographed. Heck I wouldn't dress like that now. What is wrong with having a little self-respect?

I find myself eyerolling everything about this story. This girl needs to be taught some decency and her inflated sense of importance is nauseating. Her mom/dad should be smacked upside the head too.

  • She looks like a ho-bag. Ridiculous. Obviously they are doing it for the media attention in hopes of a modeling contract or other such career advancement for the girl. And, I went to a Catholic school so maybe this isn't typical, but we had senior pictures taken at school and there were no options...blue background, weird black drapey thing, head/shoulders shot, DONE. Oh, I guess you could do your hair and makeup as you wanted, and wear the earrings and necklace of your choice, but that's it.

  • WFH is wrong w/the parents??? and the 2nd picture posted, holy cow, this is a high school year book, not Playboy!!!!!

I know this was 20 yrs ago for me, ug, but we had to have a head shot, that's it!

You're a mom, you parent, not be their friend!!!!

  • Legally:  There are definitely some interesting First Amendment issues that are raised by this.  Reasons for being to ban dressing like that in school (i.e., distraction, etc) may not apply for the yearbook.  I wonder how it will turn out.

    Personally:  It's REALLY inappropriate.

LoL.... I was thinking the same thing.  Clearly her mother is nuts too.

We had those same guidelines, and the background had to be blue/gray.  This picture is completely inappropriate.  My mother would have never let me out of the house like that.

  • My parents wouldn't have allowed it.  I don't think I would have ever dreamed of taking a picture like that in high school and I wasn't exactly tame.
