Car Interior Question

If you have leather seats, do you have a preference on the color? This isn't a make it or break it type of thing, but I'm just feeling out my options and I like looking at cars.

I definitely want a black exterior (you can't sway me on that one). I like the way tan interiors look better with black plus I think they'd be a little easier on the rear in hot weather (not that it hangs out often, just some days). One of the cars I'm looking at has seat coolers which may eliminate the burning butt problem that I'm worried about. I was thinking that a gray or dark interior may be a little more child friendly.

Re: Car Interior Question

  • My completely unscientific opinion, I prefer grey interior. I'm thinking this is because I drove a tan exterior/tan interior car for 220K miles and the thought of getting into anything else with tan makes me crazy. Because of this, my current car interior is grey and orange.
  • Leather is easy to clean weather it is tan or black. I know I am not going to allow colored drinks in the car and minimal food (someone I know within the past year was letting her 4 year old eat munchkins in the back and he started choking. So yep that pretty much has made me think no food in the car for a LONG time).

I would also recommend heated seats. OMG so nice. Being in New England we get nice and hot and humid. But never had any issues with a hot seat. I have tan. What you want to make sure is that you are parked in shade, it really helps. Also if the seat coolers work as seat warmers do, you won't be able to pre cool the seat before you sit on it. I know my seat warmers don't turn on till someone is actually sitting on the seat.

But love leather and seat warmers. I will never go back to cloth and cold seats!

ETA: I am the crazy woman that has the ac on but also my seat warmer on to keep my back warm. The warmer feels so good on a sore back!

  • Dark, dark dark is all I can say.

My seats are atrocious on my car now because of wear and tear. Between LO and my sister they look horrible. I will definitely make sure I have darker seats in the future. They are just more forgiving. I also think it probably depends on the car and the material used. I think higher end cars might use nicer leather that holds up better.

I have seat warmers ( love) but not seat coolers and the car that I'm looking doesn't either- I had no such thing that existed. I will have a dark tint, so I think that will help with the seat burning issue.

When I had really bad cramps in college I would get in my car, turn on the warmers and drive around as the heat soothed my back.

  • I always liked tan but DH was adament about black.  In hindsight it was the way to go.  Looked "richer" than the tan, hides kid crud better and honestly with the UV tinting they put on windows it was no where near as hot as I thought it would be in the summer.

  • I had black exterior, with tan leather interior - wasn't my favorite combo.

I perfer grey interior all the way, we have tan cloth right now and it shows everything.

  • I have a silver exterior with a black leather interior. I have seat coolers too so that helps in the summer. I like the black.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  • We have light grey leather in both vehicles and I like it. Covers up crud enough but still cool on the rear in the summer.
  • I absolutely love my tan leather interior :). My car is red but we almost went with black and I loved the tan interior in that as well. Grey is ok, but at least with the car I have, I thought the tan was more attractive...the grey they had was kinda blah. I will say that everyone told me I'd be able to see dirt more with tan, but I actually think black shows dirt more! (my old car was a black interior)

Out of curiosity, what car are you looking at? :)

I'm actually leaning towards the IS 250. I was hoping you would respond :) I also really like the A4s but the salesmen just weren't as convincing on the reliability of Volkswagen. They basically told us that the German brand likes to push the envelope before really testing things out as thoroughly as say a Japanese car but that's why they have really long warranties. We really like to keep our cars for a long time so I would be a little worried about when that warranty runs out. Sorry that was really long but I'm back and forth all the time haha. Everyone we know that has a Lexus has good things to say though.
