Need furniture inspiration

I'm shopping for living room side tables.

I visited Home Goods and Pier 1. Online I've looked as American Signature, Mealeys, Ashleys, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Macys, Ethan Allen, Bellacor, Z Gallerie, Overstock, Smartbargains, Wayfair, Ballard Designs, Grandin Road, JC Penney, Crate and Barrel, CB2, and West Elm. And ebay and craigslist.

I suppose my request is too specific as I've looked at every store I can think of and can't find what I want, besides 2 tables at Pottery Barn that are too expensive.

Can you think of another store or website that sells living room side tables/nightstands?

Thanks!

Re: Need furniture inspiration

  • I actually saw a bedroom set and TV stand on this site that I think I am going to order:

Ikea has a table in the Hemnes series that I like as nightstands/side tables that are around $79 I think.

Believe it or not, I actually saw a cocktail table I like on Target's website.

  • Are you up for refinishing something yourself? It seems as though you're exhausting all of your options! Have you checked craigslist or any 2nd hand furniture stores?

  • There is always Amish furniture, although not sure if that's the style you are looking for.  I like Peaceful Valley.   http://www.peacefulvalleyfurniture.com/default.asp
  • We have purchased the bulk of our furniture at Raymour and Flanigan.  I know they also have a couple of clearance centers, but I've never been to them.

Ikea can also be good. I'd probably avoid doing my whole house in Ikea furniture, but you can find some good stuff there.

And even though you checked a lot of places online, it might still benefit you to go to their phsyical location.  They might have items not listed on their website, or perhaps something will look nicer in person.

  • I typically look at Ikea, Crate & Barrel, West Elm, and CB2 when it comes to furniture.

I also love Room & Board for furniture. Have you looked there? www.lexingtonmodern.com is also a neat site (if you like modern stuff)

  • Thanks so much. These are great options.

Much to my husband's dismay (it takes me forever) I'm no stranger to refinishing so very open to that. And I've started to dig on craigslist.

I'm looking for heavy (can't be knocked over by an energetic 14 mo old), not wider than 20", with drawers, in a dark wood stain. Apparently this is hard to come by.

Yes to R&B but hadn't heard of Lexington. I'll check there. Thanks!

  • Did you check urban outfitters out? I know crazy but we bought some great night stands from them in a super dark finish. They held up very nicely milo cannot knock them over.

I use R&B for room photos/inspiration and layout ideas. There's a section on their website with just room photos. We bought our dresser there...but ended up finding a platform bed, nightstands, and lamps that were identical at Ikea (and we probably saved $5000).

  • We got a good bit of furniture at Bassetts in Wilmington.  There is also a Klaussner store across the street where we've purchase some items.

  • Since you are looking for something so specific, have you considered having them custom made?

  • Have you thought of making a trip out to the outlets in Lancaster and checking out the pottery barn outlet?  It's definitely hit or miss what they have, but sometimes you can find some great deals on furniture out there.  If you are driving all the way out there, you could also loop around and check out the big furniture outlet in Morgantown - also hit or miss, but lots to look at.

I've always wondered about this place, having seen it from the Turnpike. Good to know it's worth checking out. I probably have a lancaster trip in me soon.

I'll check out the other options too.  Though I probably won't go custom. I have to imagine this is out there, and I think custom would cost as much as the PB tables I want.

  • have your tried the dump in the burbs ville - langhorne i think.

  • I'm checking out the Dump de da Dump this weekend. Fingers crossed. many thanks.
  • I have no experience but I've heard good things about Gamburg's in Hatboro.
