I'm early I know, but wanted to wish you luck with Nolan's ear tubes on Monday.... it really wasn't nearly as bad as I'd imagined it to be.  I was SO anxious/nervous the night before & until she was out of surgery, but it went so quickly (it was literally only 15 minutes from the time DH left her- he stayed with her when they put her under- and the time that her Dr came out to get us) & everything really was so much better than I figured it would be.  She was a complete & utter mess right afterwards (which the nurses had forewarned us she would be, since she felt so groggy from the anesthesia), but after she got home and took a nap, she was literally her complete & normal self, like nothing happened whatsoever.... it was pretty amazing!  If you come up with any questions, etc between now & then, feel free to bug me :)

  • Thank you SO much. I don't know any details yet, but I'm anxious to know if they'll let one of us go back with him. That is honestly what I am most nervous about... having to hand him over. :( They're supposed to call with pre-op directions this week but if I think of anything, I will certainly be asking. I appreciate it!
  • From most people I've talked to, they've let one parent go back there while they put him/her under so that things will go more smoothly.  We decided that it would be better for DH to go, since I was afraid I'd be a mess and didn't want to freak Mads out even more.  When we got there, I found out that they wouldn't have allowed me to be the one to go in since I'm pregnant, which I hadn't known.  Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you want to check on that when you get the pre-op call!

  • You are a wealth of valuable information! I would be more upset to be expecting to go with him and then get there and find out I couldn't! So, I will definitely ask that. Thank you :)
  • I was thinking that might be the case :) I promise I'll leave you alone now!

Butting in they didn't let us go back, they warned me a nurse would come in check her wrist band and double check her name, and pick her up and go. I am glad I knew that going in because when it happened it was so fast, she was out in 10 minutes and starving. They scheduled us early since they can't eat 12 hours beforehand.

  • Amy, your story is more like what I was expecting. I'm antsy for them to call me and let me know how they do it!
  • I know the situations are different, but when Molly had surgery to drain her abscess it was like Amy described. They took her from us awake but did call for me in recovery to be there as she woke up. Too bad nobody unlocked the door and by the time I got to her she was awake and freaking out. By the time we got upstairs to her room again she was back to her normal happy self.
