52 Week Home Organization Challenge
I noticed Johlise mentioned she was doing this in the good morning post. H & I are doing it too, and I was wondering who else on here is taking this on!
If you don't know about it, here's the link:

I thought it might be nice for those of us doing this to maybe chat about it, encourage each other, post progress, etc. Anyone interested?
Re: 52 Week Home Organization Challenge
Last week was kitchen counter tops and we did pretty well with that. It looks nice in our kitchen right now! Just ignore that one counter...I consider that part of the entry area, even though it's technically the breakfast bar, but that's where we dump our mail and stuff so I'm considering it a different category and haven't finished that quite yet.
This week is kitchen cabinets and drawers. Ours really aren't so bad since we just moved 4 months ago and I had to do some rearranging during last week to find homes for some crap that was on the counter because it had no home. Our main challenge for this week will be figuring out what kind of drawer organizers will be best since our drawers are too large and everything is just rattling around. This might end up having to stretch a little beyond this week just because finding the right thing to corral all that might take me some time.
Super-excited for next week: pantry. We've been talking about ideas for it for a few months and I'm ready to tackle that baby!

Are you available for hire?
I have been known to work for cupcakes.
But seriously, I have helped my dad, sister and a close friend organize (the friend had a bajillion cable-knit sweaters, there were some tough love talks). In another life I would do that for a living!

Another way Amanda and I are almost twinsies - I love organizing as well. List-making is my procrastination tool. However, I SUCK at getting rid of things and often have friends come help and be tough love with me. My H gives in to my rationalizations too easily!
Niq - the point of the 52 weeks is to get every aspect of the ENTIRE house organized. And since that's a huge chore, she breaks it into small, easily-achievable chunks to keep it from being overwhelming. There are definitely weeks that will be passes or "freebies" for us near the end of the year since there are several weeks about organizing your kids' rooms and toys, etc and we don't have kids.
Therickson - how are you doing so far?
It's silly how excited I am for this! See, we left probably 1/2 our belongings in the garage rather than move it into the house to help control clutter while we work on deciding our storage solutions, etc. It's also showing how much we need or won't need to keep...however there is a lot because we keep missing things and spending oodles of time digging in boxes in the garage and can't find them. So this will give us guidelines for each area and as we complete it, then we can move in stuff from the garage and by end of year, the house should be pretty homey!

I I just might start this! Fortunately if I do, my kitchen is already finished, lol! H and I are sticklers for a clean kitchen, pantry, drawers, etc. My biggest things are closets, our bedroom, office, garage!! Excited to see what ideas they have
done.

I feel like we're already fairly organized. However this is one of the things on my to do list, especially after dealing with my mom's affairs when she passed last year.
2. Get Your Papers Together If you die, someone is going to have to clean up the financial aftermath. Make it easy on them by putting everything in one place where they can find it. Dave Ramsey calls this a "Legacy Drawer," and suggests putting in a cover letter and letters to your loved ones as well as the financial papers. But we're trying to keep this under an hour, so the notes are optional. Here's what it should contain: ? Insurance papers. ? Loan documents. ? A list of every financial account: loans, bank accounts, investment accounts, 401(k)s, whatever. Security experts will kill me for saying this, but I'd say this list should have the account numbers, the PINs, and the passwords. ? Deeds and titles to any property you own (cars, land, etc). ? Birth certificate and social security card, if you have them. ? Information about your will/estate plans: who has them, who the executor is. ? Funeral instructions (if any; mine are "cheapest coffin you can find"). ? Tax returns. ? A list of your major recurring expenses (so people know which bills to pay). Start by putting this in a drawer; eventually, you should move this to a safe-deposit box, and tell whoever's likely to be taking care of your final details where to find the key. This should only take you an hour -- if it takes you longer than that, well, you really needed to get these documents while you could find them anyway. I realized that since I pay all of the bills, some of which are only delivered to my email address, dh would be pretty screwed if he had to take over right now.or worse, did you hear about that guy who lost all of his memory!? it was crazy. He owned his own business and all the passwords were in his head... ack! It was a really interesting story though and they ended up writing a book about it since they pretty much had to start from scratch (and they had been married for years).

Best sound ever: baby's heartbeat! (Heard @ 10w1d)
Pretty good, we aren't terribly unorganized but it can always be better! We have a few areas (the garage and our guest room) that will take ages so I am feeling lucky now!
