We are flying to Cancun in Feb. and staying on Isla Mujeres. We will have our kids along and I want to make sure we have seat belts for their car seats. Getting to the hotel seems kind of complicated to me because we have to go from the airport to a ferry and then to the hotel. The hotel offers a direct transfer, but it's $80 (USD) per person and they charge for the kids. There will be 6 of us and I don't really want to drop nearly $500 on getting us to the hotel and back. So, it seems that maybe a private transfer to the ferry dock might be a better option.
Anyone have recommendations for private transfer companies in Cancun?
Anyone been on the ferry to Isla Mujeres? How painful is it going to be to get ourselves, our 2 kids, all of our bags and 2 car seats on to the ferry?
Anyone have experience with transportation from the dock to hotels on Isla Mujeres? Sounds like the hotel is walking distance from the dock, but I don't see ourselves traveling light enough to make that trek.

Re: Cancun transportation
When we went to Isla Mujeres we used Good Day for the transfer to the ferry. We had booked a van transfer, but they didn't have anyone else going at that time so they took us in a private car. However, it was just a normal taxi-size sedan. A van may be your only option with six people.
I don't remember getting on the ferry being problematic, but we probably had just backpacks.
There are porters you can pay to carry your stuff once you arrive on Isla. Which hotel are you staying at?

private transfers are generally priced higher than the shared ones from the hotels. i wouldn't automatically discount the $80 a person if it's to the ferry, across and then to the hotel. also they ususally price them in round trip fares, not one way. find out if they are one way or round trip.
you can have someone help you with your bags but it's so close from the baggage area through customs and out the front door-really no more than a 2 minute walk if you walk slowly. once you get outside you will look for your transfer comany and they will take your bags.
getting to IM isn't complicated at all. the ferry is nice, it's not a long ride. the ride to the ferry isnt' long either.
entertainment plus is a good transfer comany and highly rated on trip advisor.
We just used USA Transfers in November and they were great. We stayed in Cancun and it was $55 r/t plus tip for a private van. We easily found them at the aiport and they quickly got us out of there (what a mess).
It looks like it would be $75 r/t for the four of you to get to the ferry:

I found them by looking over the reviews on tripadvisor.
It's round trip. But, looking at websites a lot of private transfers are $100 from the airport to ferry (round trip) for all 6 of us
Thanks for the rec

crap. I've been in taxis in Mexico. Chances of seat belts for the car seats? Probably not good.

excuse me for asking this but it's 1 km. coudlnt' you just hold them instead of doing the car seat thing?
if you want to know FOR SURE that there's a seat belt contact the resort tell them what you need and pay accordingly. if you dont want to pay put them on your lap for the 3 minute ride and be done with it
I wouldn't ride with my baby in my lap for 3 minutes here at home and I won't do it there either. I would rather walk the 1 km
