present for DH's birthday?

I'm at a total loss.  I got him a new video game for Christmas, and we got a Kinect, so we need new games for that, but I hate getting him games, because then he wants to play them and not parent.  He doesn't need or want much.  He doesn't collect anything.

William wants to get him a fish.  Tongue Tied

I need a present from me, and from the boys.  Any cool man stuff out there I'm not aware of?  They need to advertise cool man stuff on kids channels sometimes, not just slushie machines and pillow pets.

Thanks...

Re: present for DH's birthday?

  • I'm not sure if your H wears a watch, but that's what I got H for Christmas this year. He loved it. For his birthday, which is about a month before Christmas, I got him a Kindle, which he also loved. I've also had a dozen cookies and milk sent to him at work for a gift or to make him feel better after a hard week.

  • I got these for my DH and BIL for Christmas and they were a hit. My dad was jealous and will be getting one for his birthday:

     thinkgeek.com is a site I use when looking for something for my brother. Lots of fun gadgets.

    Thanks!  DH keeps stealing DS's flashlight, so I got him one!  And a staple-less stapler I found on thinkgeek, but also on Amazon-free shipping!.  we'll just have a party without presents, since I'm sure they won't ship to my door by Friday.  Oh well.

  • I was in the same boat as you. Adam's birthday is next week and he just got everything on his wish list for Christmas. He is super hard to buy for b/c his only hobby is golf, which he doesn't get to do too much of now and he has to pick out h is own stuff for that anyway, and he isn't into tech like a lot of guys are.

    In the end I decided to just go w/ more traditional gifts. Adam is a clothing nut and he loves to dress nice.  He has a pretty traditional/preppy style (BR, jcrew), so I just took that as ran with it. I tried to find things that fit his typical look, but weren't something he'd usually buy.  I ended w/ this:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00024CDD6/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details - for work.

    http://www.amazon.com/Timex-T2N649KW-Weekender-Orange-Through/dp/B004VR9I4C/ref=sr_1_1?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1326228292&sr=1-1 - for fun

    http://www.amazon.com/SPERRY-HALYARD-KHAKI-HONEY-SHOES/dp/B005573V36/ref=sr_1_3?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1326228323&sr=1-3 - he has this weird obsession with owning "real" boat shoes, despite the fact that we don't own a boat.

    And I just picked him up a chambray shirt on sale to complete his look.  Maybe something along these lines but with whatever style your husband likes?  Watch, wallet, coat?  Coats are on super sale everywhere right now, and there are some really nice ones.  Old navy actually had some cool ones that would transition well into spring, like w/ the larger rope/toggle buttons.  I think that all things nautical are going to be popular this year, i see bright colors and traditional "polo" styles everywhere.

    I'll have to tell him happy birthday when we see him for C's 9 month appointment!  My DH hates clothes, and would live in the pajama pants the boys bought him (snow flakes and polar bears) and tshirts with holes from high school.  He used to get clothes from family for presents because his parents were poor, so he hates getting clothes.  I hope DH likes the stuff we got him, but I probably should have checked to see if I could get it in town to have it for his birthday.  Oh well.  I hate his birthday, being so close to Christmas, and he's just so hard to shop for!

  • Why can't they just be somewhere in between with clothes?!  I can see how it could be impossible to buy for if they don't like clothes at all, especially if they have a bad memory of receiving clothes :(, and I find it is really hard on the other end of the spectrum. Adam loves clothes more than any other straight guy I know, so he has very specific taste and likes to buy them for himself anyway. I honestly think he owns one of every style of clothing BR currently makes, and is just working on collecting different colors. Did I mention he bought 8 pairs of the EXACT same style of their chinos in different colors? He even "accidently" bought the same pair twice. And we couldn't return them w/o great cost b/c they shipped them in from MI for him. :{

     I digress...  I just wish I had a guy who appreciated looking nice, but let me do all the shopping. Then you'd have an easy time picking out gifts all the time.  It looks like the ideas from nickschick will work out great.  Just print out a picture to wrap for the day of, then make him his favorite meal/cake and call it a day, that sounds like a great celebration to me!
