Meal planning?

Anyone here meal plan? Is it anything more then saying "Monday is spaghetti, Tuesday is soup, etc."? I feel like I'm making this way harder than it should be. lol

Re: Meal planning?

  • I don't do it enough, but I did this week! Just before our hot date at the grocery store Saturday night, I came up with what we were going to eat each day so I knew what to buy. It was definitely just: Sunday - baked potato soup; Monday - chicken taco soup; Tuesday - leftovers or frozen pizza; Wednesday - figure it out (we're both working late); Thursday - chili; Friday - BBQ bacon burgers"

I need to get better with actually planning AND strategically planning based on what I buy. Like - if something calls for chives but I won't need the whole bunch, I need to make something else that needs chives. KWIM?

Meal planning is easy in theory, but I always have a hard time with it.

  • I used to meal plan, and I tried to this week.

Monday: leftovers from Sunday dinner at my parent's

    Tuesday: grilled cheese and soup

Wednesday: pasta with pesto (already made) with salad and veggies

Thursday: frozen stuffed chicken breast with salad and peas

    Friday: Pizza with salad

however, who knows what will actually happen. I've barely been able to eat anything, let alone what I've planned. bleh.

  • We've been trying to plan meals more.  Usually I go though our Newlyweds cookbook & pick some fast and easy meals.  Then I make a grocery list based on the ingredients and go to the store to pick up what I need.  I don't assign a meal per night, but I have enough stuff to make meals for the week (this way I'm not locked into a meal on a given night if I'm not in the mood for it).

  • I should add that if I'm going to do something like stuff chicken breasts with spinach, I'll then put spinach as a side for another meal that week, to make sure that we use it up.

That's also why we're having salad a few nights, so make sure we finish up the romaine that we have.

  • I don't meal plan at all anymore, but I really should.  I do know what I'm making for dinner tomorrow night (steak and rice) and that's pretty unusual.
