What kind of flooring do you have/want in your home? Explain your answer. :P
Re: Flooring.
We have tile in the foyer, kitchen, bathrooms and laundry room. Carpet everywhere else ...
I'd prefer to have hard surface throughout (ideally I'd prefer hardwood, because tile feels kind of cold to this northerner). After having the dog vomit a few times on the carpet ... well, I do what I can to clean it up, but I wonder how clean it really is. If we ever end up with kids I think I'm going to have gross thoughts about what spit up and blow outs are residing in the carpet even after we clean it up.

We have tile in the bathrooms, kitchen, and foyer. We have carpet in 3 of the bedrooms. We have laminate floor in the living/dining room and the office (soon to be nursery).
I really like our laminate.. it is a higher grade quality that was there when we moved in, and a lot of people think it's real wood. It's a medium to dark brown and wide planks, very easy to clean and does not scratch. I wish it was in the foyer and flowed into the kitchen as well.
I hate hate our kitchen tile. It's like an off-white color so to me, it always looks dirty. Plus it's cracked in multiple places from the house settling I guess. It is the same tile in the foyer, and was the same in the bathrooms except we've had both bathrooms redone so we got new tile in there and it looks 100 times better (one is a tan travertine look and one is a grey and tan marble look).
As far as carpet.. I just like the feel of carpet in bedrooms even though it might not be as clean. It's cozier. Our master bedroom has a light beige and our guest bedrooms have a darker walnut color carpet.
We have tile in the bathrooms, kitchen and foyer. Laminate in the laundry room, and carpet everywhere else. (even on the back porch next to the pool deck!) It's outside carpet, but really in Fla, next to the pool?)
I hate the carpet. I think I would like hardwood, but would rather have tile.
Tile in entry, kitchen and bathrooms. Carpet in master and office. Laminate wood in the nursery and hallway, and soon the living room. I may or may not tear up the carpet in our room, I love walking on carpet in the morning but DH sleeps better (doesn't snore) when there is no carpet. We chose laminate over real wood b/c of our pets, I didn't want to have to refinish the floors in a few years. Lila is only 10mos and has already destroyed our living room carpet with leaky sippy cups.
ETA: Our laminate is also the higher grade [from Lowe's
] and looks like real wood. I think it costs as much as real wood too. If you choose to do laminate, make sure its the wide, single planks, the cheaper boards are just a waste of money (chip, bend, shift).

We have engineered wood in all the rooms but the bathrooms. I think the company is Bruce. It looks fine, but it's shittay quality. No wonder we got it on clearance =/
I hate carpet, it's disgusting... but then, I can only imagine what's between the cracks of our wood floor. ick.
Good to know. We were looking at Lowe's Bamboo flooring this week. We want to stay as "green" as possible while still getting something that will last and is durable.
We have laminate in the living room/dining room/hallways, tile in entry/kitchen, and carpet in bedrooms.
I would like real wood floors, but that probably won't happen till I'm 60. So instead I'd take bamboo.

We have engineered wood floor throughout our house and I hate it too. I wish we just got laminate since it's much more durable.
Our wood floors always look dull, they scratch and dent easily. Hopefully we will move out of this house before the floors need to be replaced.
I have already sworn that the next time we have to replace flooring it will be with laminate wood floors.

First Floor: Laminate in our Den and Family Room / Kitchen and Formal Living room and hallway to the garage is Tiled
Second Floor: still Carpeted but will eventually have laminate flooring.
Carpet just collects dirt no matter what you do. Steam vacuuming is just temporary and is still not that good because it will keep moisture underneath.
